Kabitzin’s September 2007 List

I can’t believe that after this month, all the series I watch/blog will be ending… it’s like being born again! I not sure whether I really want to pick up 5 series from the Fall 2007 season, since that will hobble me for Winter 2007. Also, I’m not completely convinced that there are even 5 series I want to talk about. I do plan to jump on the Shakugan no Shana bandwagon since I blogged the first season and it was on a serious upswing towards the end. However, I don’t plan to watch CLANNAD, so that makes me 1-and-1 on the mainstream. Oh yeah, I have been stocking up Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, so I won’t mention it in my list, even though by all accounts it has been epic.

Top Five This Month:

  1. Lucky Star: The last episode was made so much better by not having a real Lucky Channel bit. We even got a bit of a Kanata tearjerker. Good way to end the season, and I enjoyed the ride. What happens if the second season of Haruhi has Lucky Star infomercials, though?!
  2. Seirei no Moribito: At long last, we get loli-Balsa. The plot’s actually been moving along now, and it’s mostly more of the same goodness that we’ve been getting all season long. Chagum sure did get a lot cooler in recent episodes, even in the face of a giant alien crab.
  3. Zombie Loan: Shito’s story was great, even if his loli-friend got head-shotted before she could learn to say “no.” Too bad this show just abruptly ended at episode 11. We never even got to find out how Yomi/Koyomi would decide between ogling Michiru and Asou at an Onsen.
  4. Claymore: So Chameleon-Saiyan Priscilla was the best they could come up with… Yeah the original material hasn’t been that mind-blowing, but the production team is doing a good job with the hand they were dealt. I for one would not want to wait 1-2 years to find out what happens after Pieta. “Claymore 2: In Bed With Yoma” gets a big Do Not Want from me. I say just end the story, and leave it at that (or ret-con later with an OVA).
  5. School Days: Still waiting on the last episode, after the Nice Boat disaster. The hooking up was getting silly, but all signs point to a bad ending from the eroge now.

Rising:

  • Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS:: DRAGOON Nanoha was pretty badass. The production values are still terrible, but at least this is the beam-spam and hearty battling that we’ve come to expect from Nanoha. Fake-timeskip Vivio was interesting, although she resisted all of Nanoha’s crazy BDSM attempts. How strange, Fate never protests.
  • Shigurui: The bean sliced on the nip moment was pretty hilarious. I also giggle whenever Kogan comes out and does something humiliating, like wet himself. This is one of those shows that you can never let anyone else know you watch.

Falling:

  • Kaze no Stigma: While the last two episodes were somewhat less-bad than the rest of the Tokyo-RPG arc, the cliche story and the incredibly bad art made the end of this show a pain to slog through.
  • Zero no Tsukaima: Let’s just say that this season sucked, even if the series finished strong like Kaze no Stigma. Also, Louise somehow gets even more annoying as time approaches infinity. Does anyone else realize that Louise and Siesta’s families form the yin and yang of ZnT’s universe? On the one hand you have Cattleya as the lone desirable female in Louise’s bitchy family, while on the other hand you have Scarron as the lone deterrent in Siesta’s more attractive family.

They wussed out at the end of Claymore anime version. They still are keeping the possibility of a season 2 wide open.
