Taisuke is in a great mood, but Kotonoha tells him she has no feelings for him, because she’s still going out with Makoto. Both Setsuna and Taisuke want Makoto to actually tell Kotonoha that she’s been dumped, and finally Makoto obliges. Kotonoha can’t believe it, and reveals Setsuna’s secret, but Setsuna makes the first move and passionately kisses Makoto in front of Kotonoha. Kotonoha thinks this is some kind of sick plot where Setsuna and Sekai want to share Makoto, but either way Kotonoha is now officially single. I also take back what I said about Makoto being a bad friend, because the love manual helped Taisuke get laid.
Ever since Sekai denied Makoto grope time at the festival, Makoto has been satisfying his urges with Otome. Otome has no problems just being the booty call girl, and she knows Makoto is a manwhore. Setsuna later spies on Otome and Makoto, and offers Makoto her body in exchange for a promise that Makoto will dump Otome the way he dumped Kotonoha. Later that night, Makoto chases Setsuna to the airport as she reminisces about when she switched seats so that Sekai could sit with Makoto. Ironically, at this same time Sekai learns about the voyeuristic cameras that the seniors put in the lounge, and she sees Otome making out with Makoto on camera. As Sekai frantically tries to call him, she runs into a lifeless-looking Kotonoha on the bridge… awkward and ironic!
What an awesome episode! I’m done hating on Makoto; he’s a playa. You can’t say he has no skills anymore, because at some point it’s more than just luck. Makoto is officially the Phil Jackson of anime dating. Yes, he is in the right situation at the right time, but he is now successfully getting action from just about every girl he talks to. He’s even been sorta honest, if a bit evasive. I’m not saying he’s a good person, but if everyone knows he’s a manwhore, how can you fault him for being himself when all the girls seem so eager to let him have his way? Also, Makoto is not like those typical wimpy harem leads; he goes for what he wants right away (with that evil dirty smirk!), and he has extremely impressive stamina. Don’t forget that this is only his rookie year!
And the girls in this school! Other than Hikari, it seems like they are all very generous with their love. What was up with Kotonoha sleeping with Taisuke? Or the tradition of the lounge? Does this filming happen every year? I was also confused about Nanami in the lounge. Was that her boyfriend, because if so why would she need to have that special confession? It was pretty crazy how her cosplay moves shocked all the seniors in the gym. One can only imagine what was taking place on film. Anyway, it seems like Makoto is a plague that has been sent to punish the girls of the school, and perhaps that love manual is not as useless (or innocuous) as we originally thought…

When and where was Kotonoha sleeping with Taisuke? It would be a pity if Kotonoha stabbed them all with a stupid kitchen knife. She should behead them in her ninja outfit with a katana, shoot them all with her AK-47 or give us some nice chain-saw massacre. Another Kaede would be a bit redundant.
Just because Itou is good at sleeping around does not mean you cannot fault him for being loose and unprincipled. We do not forgive assholes for being assholes. We do not forgive rapists for being rapists, nor should we. I firmly believe that a half truth is a whole lie, so I can’t even say that Itou is even remotely honest. I hope the bridge meeting will turn out a bit deadly as well. Itou is not typical he is far worse, the epitome of the hated double standard that men can be loose, yet women are labeled (rightfully IMHO) skanks. Rookie year, this will be his last year with any luck.
Nanami is a whore, she labeled Katsura a whore when it was Nanami who made a sex tape. I take great joy at knowing that Nanami has been publicly humiliated, she deserved it. I care not for her idiot reasons as to why, so long as the long arm of justice has smitten her then all is well.
I beg to differ that Itou was sent by some higher power, such a faithless heathen is nothing more than a mere mortal. Katsura was sent to the school to wreak righteous retribution for all of their sins. Taisuke raped her, the inability to say no does not give the fool license to do as he wishes. The lounge tradition was simply a creation of a heathen people that soon shall feel the wrath of Katsura on the Warpath. Itou is the cancer, Katsura is the cure. Like Chemo the results for her patients may very well be deadly…
I guess it is not explicitly stated that Taisuke and Kotonoha went all the way, but Taisuke seemed a little too happy the next day to have only gotten boob-action.
Yes, Makoto is a manwhore, but it takes two to have a consensual affair. It’s tempting to blame Makoto for everything, but Makoto is a well-known entity at this point. Also, I consider Makoto to be the only promiscuous one so far, so I don’t see how there is a double standard going on. Ok, maybe Nanami too, depending on who that guy in the tape was. Also, Nanami didn’t know she was making a tape (lol), although going to the lounge is a questionable decision in and of itself.
Let’s hope Makoto and Taisuke never find a school for mute girls… Also, if Makoto is the cancer, doesn’t that technically make Sekai the cure?
Of course Itou is not entirely at fault and Sekai, Setsuna, Kato, and her Gang of Four shall taste the cold steel of Katsura’s vengeance soon enough. However the double standard at work here is that Katsura was unjustly labeled as the worst while Itou gets a free pass. Katsura is scorned while Itou is placed upon a pedestal. Setsuna knows that Itou is a cheater and yet places lion’s share of the the blame on to Katsura and destroys Katsura so Itou can get away with it. Nanami blames Katsura and even has the nerve to accuser her of wrong doing under the false assumption that Sekai and Itou were together and Hikari and Taisuke were together. Yes i would say that these bastards do subscribe to a double standard.
The mere fact that Itou’s faithless ways can even be celebrated is part of a hideous double standard where if women cheat they are shunned and stoned. If a man is unfaithful he was merely seduced and generally escapes retribution and is celebrated wrongfully as being manly.
As for Nanami, she mated in public. It was her own goddamn fault for not being more selective of a more private place. Ignorance is no excuse. It was a righteous smiting through and through. Nanami was party to the schemes of Sekai, Setsuna, and Kato. Nanami tried to hurt katsura as well, thus it was a most fitting punishment. I care not who she mated with, she was caught publicly and deserved to crushed under the weight of her sins.
While you make good points, I do want to point out that at least this series promotes using condoms.
Who knows, Makoto may come full circle and land up with Kotonoha. He did blow her off, but I think she is clinging to the fact that’s it’s a conspiracy between Setsuna and Sekai. It did seem he felt really bad that he hurt her so. Speaking of Sekai, she was cool to him in ep.9. At the end, she asked Makoto if she was his girlfriend and he did not reply. Now that she saw the Otome footage, she may dump him. He could end up with Otome, but Setsuna’s off to Europe.
He such a fool though, not thinking long term. Katsura is smart, sweet, kind, pretty, has a nice body, and is rich. She even invited him to the yacht! (What would they do when they got there, I wonder!?) Who would turn that down?
Women shunned and stoned for cheating? I’d suggest adjust your compass, this is not the orient. Everybody knows in Japan the penalty for cheating is bukkake. So technically Nanami has already punished herself. Maybe in modern Japan it’s applied to men too? So Kotonoha might just as well go bukkake on Makoto.
He’ll probably still go to the yacht anyway. He just doesn’t want to be Kotonoha’s boyfriend, because he doesn’t get free unlimited text messaging on his cell phone plan.

Ah pardon my ignorance, but Japan is indeed a special place outside of the orient as they so often claim. They are so special in fact that their laws are quite backward and quaint…they have yet to advance to stoning.
Nanami punishing herself is as about laughable as Pablo Escobar jailing himself in a prison he built himself. Punishment is to be doled out by a third party, the only third party worthy and able to pass judgment is Katsura. I did not see Katsura prescribe crying as a form of punishment. Nay, Nanami has yet to feel the full weight of Katsura justice.

The use of condoms is still suspect. Given atmosphere of stupidity in this school I doubt that they know what a condom is. Heck they have trouble reconciling public vs private, and girlfriend vs mistress…It just looks like a slip of paper to me, no logo or nothing. There was no Trojan man to wish them well either. In all honesty I would like for all of them to get pregnant and miscarry, or better yet die shortly after seeing their new born mutants.
The only reason Makoto gets all the girls is because he’s the male lead of an h-game.

I think the thing with Nanami is that the “confession” is part of the tradition of taking whomever to the lounge, and so it’s not so much a confession than an invitation to get it on (though it could very well be a confession too).
As for everyone knowing Makoto being a player, really Otome is the only one who knows (or knew) and obviously neither Kotonoha nor Sekai are exactly thrilled with the idea.
I don’t really see it as a fitting punishment for Nanami for wanting to hurt Kotonoha, since she got mad at Kotonoha under the impression that Makoto had broken up with her (which he hadn’t, at least formally).
As for Crusader saying that Nanami “made a sex tape” and thus should be punished, it wasn’t really her that made the tape - it was the seniors who hid the camcorder who made the tape. Whether one thinks she should have used the lounge or not can be debated, but I’d find it unfair to say that she “made a sex tape.”
As for Setsuna knowing that Makoto is cheater - yes she knows that, and is trying to stop it. Kotonoha was going to get hurt regardless of what anyone did once Makoto got tired of her. Nothing Setsuna did or didn’t do was going to change it. In fact, she may have made it easier by finally getting Makoto to finally formally break off their relationship.

It depends on how you view humanity really. There would have been no sex tape if Nanami had not mated. Clearly there was no director in the room nor was there a grip or bestboy, thus the seniors are guilty of placing a mere camera there was no coercion involved. The seniors had no control over what these loose teenagers did. Hence Nanami made a sex tape and judging by her reaction she did some very nasty things on her own. While she may have been ignorant of the fact that there was a camera, that does not change the fact that she is guilty of public indecency. Her choice was to put it bluntly as romantic as a portable toilet in a construction yard in the middle of a heatwave.
It was a shoddily set up operation run by a bunch of irresponsible teenagers. There was no guarantee of privacy so by what right can Nanami claim an expectation of privacy? Nanami mated in a place there the possibility of prying eyes was not remote, just because she had no idea such an eye was electronic in nature does not mean she is innocent. Nanami is guilty of not only public indecency, but reckless disregard for her own privacy. After all sane people do not jump at the opportunity to mate in a public place separated by mere curtains…Nanami mated in public, one does not mate in public and discount the likelihood of being caught. In fact wasn’t the fact that it was n public that made it thrilling for her? Nanami was just caught very publicly. Suffice to say a sex tape is a tape that has a sexual act recorded for posterity. If Nanami did not have sex there would be no tape.
Nanami made a rather public accusation of Katsura being some skank who seduced Taisuke. Hikari and Taisuke were not a couple, even if Hikari wishes it thus so long as Taisuke does not even involve himself romantically with Hikari Taisuke cannot cheat. Thus Nanami made not only a public accusation insulting Katsura’s honor the accusation was false. In that context Nanami is guilty of slander as well, thus public humiliation is a most fitting punishment. Katsura seemed to be humiliated when Nanami started making false charges. Nanami liked to dish out the pain and the insults, she should not expect to be free of such evils. Do onto others as you would have done onto yourself. In Nanami’s case she called Katsura a seductress and a whore, thus the powers that be were obliged to label Nanami a skanky whore. The only caveat here is that in Nanami’s case the label is a reflection of the truth for Katsura was woman enough to draw a line from the start.
People do stupid things in public all of the time, just because they did not expect some one to be watching does not mean that we can excuse them for being stupid. If they were doing anything illegal we do not simply let these people go. Nanami took part in the destruction of Katsura’s reputation, it is only fitting that Nanami’s reputation is destroyed was well.
Setsuna could have been a bit more diplomatic about forcing a rejection. Setsuna did not have to be there in full view of Katsura. To me dumping someone in full view of acquaintances and friends is rude. Katsura rejection made things easier for Sekai and Itou. Katsura only benefited in so far as she will be the one to gut both traitors and a gaggle of other undesirables. Setsuna is no saint, she gave Sekai enough handouts to make Sekai utterly dependent. Setsuna trusts Sekai’s welfare in the hands of Itou. Setsuna is a liar and a cheat. Setsuna did not deal with Katsura using an even hand, she wanted it to be crushing and she did get her wish. Setsuna made it more crushing by kissing Itou, not to simply crush Katsura but to hide her treachery was well. Thus Katsura’s sanity is also a victim of Setsuna’s need to cover up her crimes.
I’ve just marathoned epis 6-10 (I know, I’m late to the party) and OMG THIS IS GETTING GOOD! I might seem like a loser when I say this (or don’t have very high standards), but this is definitely going into my top 10 of fav anime… ok, maybe top 20! Well, that’s only if we get the bad ending!
I don’t understand why more people haven’t realized this! Hes definitely a playa-pimp! People should just LOL at these outrageous scenes, it feels a lot better than hatin! FO SHO! Wow. You know, I’ve played the game, never watched the anime. have the first 2 episodes on my hard drive. This thread kind of makes me want to watch them.
The longue sex tape you guys are talking about is probably the school festival sex-bed from the game. All the girls in the school knew that this class’ female students set up a haunted house, which was really just a cover for a room with a bed inside, and the idea was that girls were supposed to bring their boyfriends inside for sex. This was not actually supposed to be recorded, it was done, if I recall, by the girls’ basketball team which then later had limited audience screenings for other female students. In one of the routes, Sekai gets to watch Kotonoha banging Itou on the big screen — funny, funny scene. In another route, Otome incites Daiske into raping Kotonoha in the room — I don’t recall Kotonoha ever having even passively-concsesnual sex with anyone else besides Itou. Kotonoha really wanted to do the folk-dance with Itou, but was bullied into being the ticket manager for the room (only people with tickets were in the know, so you needed to present a ticket to get in). Kotonoha gets desperate trying to prove that she has a boyfriend, and traps herself into waiting for Itou, who, depending on path, is probably out getting ready to do the folk dance with Sekai.
I have to say though; you can’t possibly have seen Itou as a playa in the game. He was just a tool who sulked and whined emotes every now and then while other girls tried to seduce him.
