Kaze no Stigma 21

Lots of Class 2 (SEED) duels are popping up, and Kazuma uses them as handy locations for interrogation. Although his methods are quite harsh, Kazuma is unable to learn anything other than that Utsumi has become a Class 3 Rune Master specializing in curses. Kazuma takes out Nanase’s bodyguards, Katherine and Izumi, and lets Utsumi kidnap Nanase with some mind control. Kazuma hopes to use Nanase as bait, so he can question Utsumi about Pandemonium’s whereabouts.

Ayano can’t believe that Kazuma is acting like this, but Kirika fills her in on Kazuma’s past. When Kirika was training 2 years ago in London, Kazuma was well-known as a demonic wind mage who wouldn’t hesitate for a second to hurt someone. In fact, Kirika was overjoyed when he finally left. But something must have changed him in Japan, so now it’s up to Ayano to get him to chill out.

There was a little bit of plot development, with Kazuma being all Dark Side. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was yet another plan cooked up by Juugo to get Ayano to sleep with Kazuma. It was fun watching Kazuma cut through all the BS and just kick the crap out of all these pompous scrubs. One thing I didn’t understand was how Kazuma could shoot Izumi in the back (clearly not breaking her strap), and yet the ambulance team still had to unbutton her shirt and take off her bra (perhaps they had to defibrillate her). However, Katherine took a blast to the chest, and her bra is clearly showing and intact.

Meanwhile, there was a bit of corny evil action at Pandemonium. Vernhardt is almost done gathering data, but still wants to have more fun. Who the hell has fun gathering data? Vernhardt is a sick sick man. He also apparently gave Lapis a heart, so she is not just a doll. Vernhardt hopes she will feel all angsty and become human. That or he hopes someone will come along and trigger her flags.

This show does weird things to me. At one moment I’m cringing from all the bad lines and cheese only to be swept away by awesomeness the next. It’s mainly Kazuma, and most oftenly evil Kazuma, that’s responsible for the wow-factor and mainly everybody else for the cheese though.

Even though I’m almost certain that Ayano will make him a wimp in the end I hope he’ll get to kill atleast one of the higherups among his enemies, and preferably in a quick and convincing way.

Basically Kazuma is the only interesting thing about this series. So much of that Ayano dating and Ren being a hero for young love crap could have been glossed over quickly. I just hope that this arc will have a satisfying resolution.
