Makoto is insatiable, pushing himself on Sekai at every opportunity. Sekai is racked with guilt, but Makoto has no problem blowing Kotonoha off to spend more time with Sekai. Setsuna sees how close Sekai and Makoto are, and assumes that Makoto broke up with Kotonoha; unfortunately, Sekai doesn’t bother to correct Setsuna, in the hopes that Makoto will soon dump Kotonoha. Things get even more confusing when Kotonoha finally stands up to Otome’s gang of bullies and smacks Otome with the information that Makoto is in a relationship already.
At the same time, Kotonoha is launching a series of attempts to break through Makoto’s shell. Hot lemonade, matching cell phones, and hand-knit goods have no effect on Makoto, and one day Kotonoha happens to glimpse just a flash of Makoto and Sekai kissing. However, it isn’t until Kotonoha gets to the rooftop door to find Makoto fondling Sekai and the two confessing their love for each other that Kotonoha has to accept that Makoto is cheating on her.
Poor Kotonoha, you have to feel really bad for her in this episode. Her man is the target of so many women, and just when Kotonoha finally deals with big bully Otome (in a fantastic scene), Kotonoha’s victory is ruined when she finds her boyfriend pawing at Sekai on the rooftop. I can’t wait to see how Kotonoha will handle this, considering how much work she’s put into this relationship, and how much she’s bragged about being Makoto’s girlfriend.
Even though Sekai brought a lot of it on herself by encouraging Makoto in the beginning, I still feel bad for her. While Makoto doesn’t really care what happens to anyone as long as he gets some, Sekai genuinely feels guilty. As easy as it is to criticize, this sort of thing happens all the time, and it seems like the best friend is the one who often does the mate poaching.
