Kaze no Stigma 18

After catching a glimpse of Tsuo Rin, Kazuma loses her in the crowd and gets all angsty. In his absence, the other characters round up the MMORPG lamers for questioning. Katherine has joined Kirika’s squad, and has little trouble taking out mahou shoujo-wannabe Shii-chan. Meanwhile Kanon gets harassed by Takamatsu Takashi. Both Kanon and Tasuya beat up Takashi for underestimating Ren, and Takashi threatens to return with his Esper aniki.

Sadly, Takashi does not return with Itsuki, but rather with some goofy fire user. Ren easily purifies Kiyoshi’s fire, and Kiyoshi reveals that he gained his power from a one-time message online. Furthermore, upon gaining enough EXP points, one is allowed to visit Vesalius at the secret Pandemonium mansion. The description of the mansion leads Ren and his friends to a building with two towers, and Ren AOE’s the space between the towers with a purifying blast to reveal the mansion. Unfortunately, before they can escape, Vesalius somehow kidnaps Ren.

This was actually a pretty good episode. Thank goodness we have finally managed to get back to the main storyline, although Kazuma sat out most of the episode. Ren was supposed to be cool again, but his plan to confirm the location of the mansion was not well thought out. Did he think that no one would notice the gigantic yellow fireball plummeting towards the mansion? Once more Ren needs to be rescued, and the enemy is some mysterious powerful yoma. On the other hand, Ren’s probably safer with the yoma, because Kanon and Tasuya seriously are trying to get Ren into a ménage à trois.

It’s amusing how you can download a yoma online; how did it get past the anti-virus software?! I was highly amused by the yoma’s understanding of the MMORPG genre. The lack of a forum, combined with the secrecy of the mansion so that players cannot bitch and whine about class changes and overpowered abilities is wonderful in a game focused on PVP. Then there’s the wild goose chase of a quest that Kiyoshi had to go on to get his class change. Oh FFXI how I miss you (except not really). It was also pretty hilarious when Shii-chan mentions that how rare it is for 3 female players to meet up in the same place.

About Kabitzin:
One of the founders of Sea Slugs, I handle most of the blog admin tasks while wearing my I AM BOSS shirt. I like my action series well-choreographed, and my romance series extra trashy. I also have a soft spot for puns.
