Hitohira 12 (Final)

We start in medias res with Nono telling Mugi that she should be bolder now that she’s been the lead actress once. Flashing back, we see the DRS and DC having a little graduation celebration party. At the party, Nono forgives splitting up the club, and everyone forgives her. Chitose also makes good on her promise to confess to Takashi, but he confirms her suspicions and reveals he likes Nono. For the rest of the episode, Nono agonizes over what to do for the seniors, and finally decides on sticking a note into Nono’s locker. The note brings Nono to the storage room where the Primavera dress is being examined by Mirei, and the two have a touching moment, as Nono confesses she really wanted to be on stage with Mirei.

Back to the future, Nono tells Mugi that the note was kinda lame, and not very bold. However, Mugi proclaims that she now has a dream, and realizes that Kayo and the seniors are just going on ahead of her. We then get an extremely trippy sequence of Mugi dancing with Nono, Mugi watching Nono perform Hitohira, and Mugi soaring in the air through several seasons. Fast forwarding to the next school year, Mugi examines the new buds that have grown on the branch she broke in episode 1. As Kai spies on them from the art room, Chitose, Mugi, and some freshman scrub go to watch the sakura petals fall.

This was a nice ending, but the second half of this episode was very confusing. For instance, I did not understand what parts of Mugi’s final drug-induced vision were real, or if perhaps Kai has devolved into a stalker as Mugi and Chitose pick up fresh meat. Also, isn’t it totally awkward for Takashi to be reciting tongue-twisters to a girl who he just rejected?

However, the other farewell moments were very touching. It was cute how Takashi gave Chitose his second button, although he pseudo-confessed to Nono (only to be pseudo rejected with a, “You have weird taste”). Kai also pseudo-confessed to Mugi, but nothing came of that either. The scene with Mirei and Nono in front of the Primavera dress was nice, and I’m glad that Mugi was able to grow, without unrealistically powering up her stage ability.

Let’s just say the director is the same guy who did Simoun.

While the sequence makes not much sense, the BGM track for it is totally awesome and at one point, I was putting it on a loop for the whole day.

Hey! Thanks for giving this series your attention. I’m really enjoying it and am glad your giving it good exposure!… I guess you could call me a lurker…or whatever you call people who visit the site but don’t comment (stalker perhaps?), but anyways, just wanted to come out (OF THE CLOSET!!…just kidding) and say how much I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. I especially like the captions you make for the screenshots. They really make my day (wish more blogs would do that)! Well, that’s all I wanted to say! Thanks and keep up the gangstalicious work! WORD!!!

Oh and by the way, would you mind giving me your opinion of this parody fandub of Hitohira I’ve made?

I think you might like it (at least I hope) (and if not that’s alright)… (and your probably thinking: “HEY! This guy just commented to advertise his dub! THAT BASTARD!!!” but that’s seriously not the case. I really do enjoy your blog and hope you continue to make my day…and i hope the dub makes your day…but like i said, its alright if you dont like it…but please post your feedback! :3

That last episode had one really very weird sequence but overall the ending was satisfying. I’m glad that Starlight subbed the show, and couldn’t thank them enough.
    One question though: at some point when Mugi tells Nono that she has a dream too, she’s holding some kind of piece of paper which looked like the paper that was hanged above the door of the Drama Research Club. Could someone confirm this? And if confirmed, how do you interpret it? Will Mugi keep the club alive? Or is it some kind of “treasure”? Or am I reading too much into this? ^_^;;;

    1) Mugi holds the paper slip with the name of the drama research club and shows it to Nono saying that she has a dream.

    2) She is seen at the end of the episode with Kanna (a drama club member) and a freshman who calls her “senpai” and they prepare to hold a “hanami” meeting together.

Those two facts above lead me to conclude that Mugi joined the drama club and is now a senior member in that club. There is no reason for that male student to call Mugi by “senpai” and then invite her to the flower viewing with him and Kanna unless they are all members of the same club. Mugi even answered with a loud voice meaning that the main obstacle that stood in the way of her acting (her lack of confidence) has disappeared.

Well, it is interesting that you did all the voices, and I think you did a good job of staying in character. It reminded me a lot of the Abridged Yugi-oh.

I think it got better towards the end, and I liked the Rosie O’Donnell jokes. The beginning was not very good though, being forced to sit through the unchanged OP, and I’m not sure that HIV makes for that funny a subject. The teacher jokes were pretty decent, but the loli/shouta jokes weren’t that great. Good effort, and thanks for reading the blog.

Finally! Someone who gives me criticism that isn’t “F*CK! A GUY DOING GIRL VOICES!!! WTF!!!” (I wonder whatever happened to that comment…) Thanks for your feedback! I’m glad you liked the Rosie O’Donnell jokes; cause there’ll be more in part two (I’ll try not to have too much though). Yeah, sorry bout the OP. I was going to either sing it myself (in that exaggerated Kai voice) or change the lyrics (with that exaggerated Kai voice), but had to rush the dub because it was meant as a gift to starlight-subs (you know, before they lose interest in Hitohira, especially since they finished subbing the series) (not sure if they liked it) (and no, I’m not trying to use that as an excuse. I’m glad how the dub turned out, and I should have worked harder if I wanted the new song included.)

I was afraid the HIV joke might be a bit too offensive (I’ve always thought the Hitler part might offend people too…to tell you the truth, my biggest fear was/is Rosie O’Donell watching the dub and suing me or something like that… lets hope she doesn’t watch anime!). Hmmm…I thought the loli/shouto jokes would be the driving force behind the series…guess I’ll have to change that *throws away epi 2 script* Anyways, thanks again for the feedback! You’ve made my day again! :3

D.S. I’m glad you know about the Yugioh Abrigged series. I was going to name my dub “Hitohira the Abrigged Series” (hope the title HIT-YO-PINAS doesn’t offend anyone either…), but its not exactly “abrigged”, since I’m not shortening the series.

(hmmm, this is unrelated and only to explain why I put “D.S.” instead of “P.S.”…Well,…IM A BIG NINTENDO FANBOY AND DESPISE SONY AND THEIR DAMN PLAYSTATIONS…so I put D.S…for Nintendo DS…yeah I’m a nerd, sorry for taking your time…back to the shadows I go!)

(one more thing, I would DEFFINATLEY go to bed with your blog, although I’m not very experienced! *blush* “so please be gentle!”)
