3 years ago, Prince Wales and Henrietta went to the Lagdorian Lake, where they first met (when she was skinny dipping). They swear on the water spirits to love each other forever. Back in the present, Henrietta mourns the dead Crown Prince, but is shocked to find that he’s right outside her window. Unfortunately, it’s actually zombie Wales (henceforth referred to as Vvales to avoid confusion), revived by the Ring of Andvari.
Vvales wants to take Henrietta with him to Albion, and she reluctantly agrees. With the Gunpowder Squadron, Kirche and Tabitha, and Zero on his tail, Vvales uses some magic to hold them off. Unfortunately, Louise’s blank book of Void Magic suddenly lights up with runes, and Louise is able to hit Vvales’ iPod with a large lightning bolt of Dispel Magic. Vvales reverts to Wales, and tells Henrietta to get a rebound guy, but when she refuses, he tells her he will love her forever, and then dies in her arms.
It was odd how in the mini-flashback we see Cromwell and (what looks like) Furomoru reviving Wales. What took Vvales so long to get back to Henrietta? And if that is Furomoru, why didn’t Cromwell recognize her in the cell before he died? Ah, such deep mystery in ZnT hurts my brain. I was intrigued to see Henrietta actually cast magic from her egg whisk, although the only spell she cast was defensive in nature. I also wonder at what specifically allows Louise to read her manual, mirroring last season’s mystery of Saito’s runes.
I really identified with Colbert when he was worried about having so many leftover parts. I also laughed when Tabitha got tired of talking and simply shot Vvales full of holes. Fortunately, Vvales is a zombie, and was able to regenerate, otherwise Henrietta would have been even more traumatized. I couldn’t believe how Vvales was able to shut Henrietta up time after time by just telling her he loved her. In some ways, I guess Cromwell did Henrietta a favor, by allowing Wales to be with Henrietta in the end, even if Wales had to die twice to get there.
