Duff has some tough skin, and his man-rod emits enough Yoki to confuse Clare. However, before he can strip off Clare’s clothes, Galatea comes to her rescue and starts using her Jedi mind tricks on Duff. It’s going pretty well, until Riful starts tossing out spoilers left and right; Galatea’s ability to tweak the target’s Yoki is rather limited, and can be defeated by putting all of one’s might into an attack. Clare goes a bit too far over her limit to save Galatea, but Galatea’s Yoki manipulation is enough to bring Clare back from the edge.
Galatea then gives us a history lesson on past powerful Claymores. Previously, three #1 Claymores have awakened (2 female, 1 male). They are very powerful and are known as the Abyssals. Their territories never overlapped before, but ever since Priscilla joined the Abyssal in the North, he’s been clamoring for a fight. This is why Riful of the West is stockpiling Awakened allies. Although Riful doesn’t actually want to fight, Galatea decides they will need Jean’s help to defeat Duff now. Unfortunately, it looks like Jean is very close to Awakening.
It was amusing watching Duff bitch and moan about how Claymores are overpowered and need to be nerfed. Moreover, it’s clear that Riful wears the pants in their relationship, and keeps her man on a tight leash (when he isn’t out trying to strip other girls). Having plenty of experience dealing with dumb peons, it wasn’t much of a challenge baiting Clare with information about Priscilla’s whereabouts. Clare’s just lucky Galatea was there to stop her from Awakening twice in one episode.
Speaking of Galatea, I really liked the way they animated her Yoki-manipulation. It was very cool, yet subtle. I also appreciated her beauty concerns, realizing that sometimes it isn’t worth getting fugly just to win. With that said, the revelation that Galatea has the most upside potential of the current 47 Claymores was very exciting.

I just watched this episode. It’s epic.
Galatea ftw!
I prefer Miria, no… Galatea… I can’t choose!
I like how closely the anime is staying true to the manga. The pacing is great, art is top notch.
I wonder if there will be a second season?
downloading this now!
I think it might be time for a new Seaslugs poll - favorite Claymore!
“man-rod” haha. Galatea’s probably the most elegant Claymore out of the 47.
I was just completely weirded out when I realized that it was Nana Mizuki (FEITO) who was voicing Riful. Clearly she needs an Awakened Nanoha to replace the male awakened one named after Homer Simpson’s favourite beer.
I think my favorite claymore will always be Teresa. A pity she’s gone.
That would be a tough poll to vote on, though, since a lot of Claymores die quickly, and some haven’t been introduced yet. Personally my favorite is the Phantom Menance herself, Miria.
great episode and the perfect point in the series to explain the big scheme of things.
Phantom Menace Miria - WIN. Too bad Obi Wan Irene is no more…*sniff* Come to think of it, Ophelia would make a good Darth Maul…
Anyway, Riful really has the perfect setup. She’s a loli but she’s at least 100 years old, maybe more? So young and innocent looking but slip up and she’ll eat ya - literally.
And what’s with the Org? Making someone as young as Riful undergo the Claymorization process and on top of that, she had comparable power to that of Teresa, give or take. FRIGHTENING.
