Hitohira 07

After a string of coincidences, Nono and Mirei end up trapped in the closet together, and we get a wonderful combination of flashbacks and angst. We finally get to see Mirei luring Nono into the world of yuri stage drama, and how Mirei blames herself for Nono’s condition. Primavera (from episode 1) was supposed to be played by Nono, and Mirei was very excited about stripping Nono to take some measurements.

While the two are shouting with their stage voices, in hopes of attracting help, Nono suddenly loses her voice and has to communicate by writing in a notebook. It’s a poignant moment, with Mirei breaking down in tears, and Nono telling Mirei they are still friends. Mugi was actually outside the whole time and loving the story, but finally she gets spotted and goes to get help. After a night of sleep, Nono is better again.

What a touching episode! It was so sweet how Mirei used her mojo to get Nono to join the club and put up with all the tough coaching. The wonderful friendship just made it that much sadder when Nono was forced to quit the DC in order to get back on stage immediately. Even Mugi was moved to tears at the story, although it probably sounded like someone relaying a sob story over a cell phone, since Mugi probably couldn’t read Nono’s cue cards.

Nono is definitely turning into my favorite character, with her tragic backstory, willingness to suddenly start brawling (and/or slam chairs down, WWE-style), and deep yuri-tastic friendship with Mirei. I also liked how Nono emits Yoki while hiding in the storehouse, and randomly accuses Takashi of sexually harassing her. Mirei was also fleshed out a bit, and we got to watch her comically try to work the door, attempt to use all kinds of harem-lead moves on Nono, and feel all guilty about her role in Nono’s health condition.

This show is getting better every epiosde and I can’t wait to see how the producers will conclude the story. If it turns out well, I may even consider screening it at my club.

It’s a shame that Hitohira hasn’t been given much attention by other bloggers and some even described it as “boring”. Nono is definitely a great character and even side characters like Kana play an instrumental role in the story. I guess “all the world is a stage and all the men and women merely players” after all (^_^)

I can’t really agree on the yuri classification though. There just isn’t enough there to classify this show as yuri. The relationships are more or less that of friendship and admiration, not romance and love.

I think episodes 3 and 4 took some of the steam out of the action, but it’s really been going a lot stronger since. I am kidding about the yuri stuff, but most friends don’t stroke each others cheeks, lol (ok my friends don’t stroke my cheeks anyway). So far most of the love has been kinda puppy love and one-sided, but the deep friendships give that warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Yuri. There’s just enough for fans with yuri goggles on full power to speculate but also not quite enough to make denial plausible i.e. The Nanoha Principle. LOL

Yoki. Mirei should play Theresa and Nono as Clare!?

Haha, although Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate lay around together practically undressed.

Is it just me or was Nono actually faking her voice loss in that episode to get a reaction from Mirei? Especially since she “miraculously” recovered the next day. She’s devious enough to do it.

[...] But then again, I could say the latter about most series. My favourite episode was definitely episode 7 because Nono Ichinose rocks, Mirei Sakaki rocks and Nono x Mirei rocks. And also because the [...]
