Kabitzin’s June 2007 List

So far most of the series I’m watching are going strong. I even went and marathoned Kekkaishi. Although Yoshimori has a tendency to suddenly become all fugly looking (production value woes), I’ve really been enjoying the story so far. I also marathoned the first 6 episodes of Hitohira. Hitohira is less exciting, but has much better visuals than Kekkaishi. Anyway, it’s going to be a tight fit getting all the series I enjoy in, while sampling the July season.

By the way, what the hell happened with the last two episodes of Code Geass? That delay is one of the crappiest ideas ever. I need my angsty Suzaku!!! Also, I’ve noticed that I have been disliking characters with the name “Teana” this month.

Top Five This Month:

  1. Seirei no Moribito: Chagum sparring better be pretty freaking awesome, considering I’ve been waiting for some action for about 7 episodes. Still, I love the subtle ways that they’ve been fleshing out the characters and the world. I’m even starting to really like Chagum a lot.
  2. Claymore: Damn they are going through manga material fast! This is like the complete opposite of Naruto. Between the Teresa flashbacks, the start of the real storyline, and the one episode with the tentacle monster, Claymore has really had something for everyone. Decreased Lucky screen time is also a plus.
  3. Lucky Star: I was amazed that Lucky Channel 9 was actually funny for once, but it didn’t last. Still, Konota and Kagami continue to carry the show, with occasional help from Tsukasa. I loved the static-shock portion with the “Oh! Oh! Oh! NO!!! Yesssu.”
  4. Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann: It’s interesting how everyone gets kinda retro-fugly before they die, and this month has been both emotional and outstanding. I’m glad that Simon has snapped out of his angsty funk, and now he doesn’t even need a co-pilot. The one downer in the show is that fat-lipped guy in stripes, the one who always orders a premature assault (the kind that leads to wipes).
  5. Kekkaishi: Who knew that an anime about Qix could be so much fun? The storyline is starting to get all dark and suspenseful, and I wonder how far Masamori is from slaughtering the whole Sumimura clan (except for Yoshimuri) a la Naruto. LOL @ the introduction of Hell Teacher Nubei Gen Shishio in the latest episode.

Rising:

  • Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS:: It’s time for all the recruits to just die so that Nanoha and Fate can train harder than ever and own all the baddies. However, I did enjoy watching everyone beat on Teana.
  • Hitohira:: It doesn’t get much more dramatic than a series about competing drama clubs. The underlying sadness and deep bonds of friendship have me crying hot manly tears!

Falling:

  • El Cazador de la Bruja: Continues to drag along, in typical Bee Train fashion. I might drop posting about this series, even if I keep watching it. Mitigating factors include how enthusiastic Ellis and L.A. tend to get, and how Jodie finally undoes her Clark Kent-level disguise. I don’t know what to say about the stupid Pokemon rejects.
  • Kaze no Stigma: Less Ren and Teana, more Kazuma, please. I know what they’re trying to do, but really this show is all about how awesome Kazuma is. Also, shouldn’t Kazuma be able to just extinguish all oxygen in an area, killing the enjutsushi and wiping out the flame?

Watching all top three. Seirei no Moribito has the most superb visuals. I just hope it have more action and plot like it did in the first few episodes. Some of the character centered episodes are pretty decent, but certainly not all of them. The other show I would put in the top list is Denno Coil. Many people simply dismiss it as a kid’s show. But one got to watch it to appreciate how great it is. Miyazaki style characters + intriguing story = win.

i’m downloading Seirei no Moribito and Kekkaishi as i type. it better be as good as the rest on your top 5. i think kaze no stigma is still going strong because i’m a sucker for the lovestory between kazuma and ayano. maybe the fact that i marathoned all the episodes til now helped?

Woo, you have a slew of good anime waiting for you then. Thus far Seirei no Moribito starts off with a bang and then settles into a comfortable slice of life pace (with the hint that the action and suspense will be returning soon, along with Balsa’s way better battle outfit). As for Kekkaishi, it is a fairly standard shounen series, but the kekkai system is a rather interesting way of combat (shades of Ghostbusters), and I like the demon dogs.

I like Kazuma a lot, but they are just trashing Ayano and turning her into a useless airhead. Now that we have established that Ren is a cool little dude, I hope we can get back to Kazuma and his past angst.

this computer couldn’t handle the mkv files i found of Seirei no Moribito. it’s a shame cuz what little i saw definitively caught my eye. guess it has to wait until august when i’m buying a new computer.

after checking 1 episode of Denno Coil i’ll have to agree with Tom. it’s love from first sight for me. out of the box stuff allways intrigues me. damn this summer is strong on the anime tip.

i love the trashing of ayano. maybe it’s be bitter-at-women part of me. but yeah, the show need to refocus back to kazuma right about now, i agree.
