Claymore 12

Clare has been well-behaved lately, but still gets sent to Gonahl to fight a more powerful AO. She tells Lucky to stay put, but of course he doesn’t listen. It’s fortunate, because when Clare gets there she finds that her only comrade is the Elven-eared Ophelia. Clare quickly finds out that Ophelia is very sick and twisted; Ophelia is also intrigued at the familiar taste of Clare’s blood and the musky scent of Clare’s AO perfume. As it turns out, Ophelia likes to kill humans, Claymore teammates, and Yoma alike. However, unlike Teresa, Ophelia is smart enough not to leave any witnesses.

Lucky leaps to Clare’s rescue, and Ophelia decides to play a little game. Ophelia chops off Clare’s legs, and Clare has to reattach her own legs while Ophelia toys with Lucky. The game is cut short by the AO finally showing up, and Clare partially awakens to save Lucky. The duo use the distraction to escape. Unfortunately, Ophelia defeats the AO quickly, and can’t wait to kill Clare (whom Ophelia considers an AO). Clare decides she and Lucky should part ways, and they make a mutual promise to survive and hook up one day.

What a great episode, as Ophelia is one truly odious Claymore. However, I couldn’t help but snicker when Ophelia cut off Clare’s legs, since it was just so similar to this scene. It’s just a flesh wound! Of course it was also a chance for Lucky to be extremely manly and pretend he wasn’t hurt so that Clare could focus on healing her wounds. This is ignoring the fact that she wouldn’t have been in this predicament in the first place if Lucky had stayed put… Still, it was a nice gesture, and helped Lucky score some hot Claymore action later in the episode.

I wonder why Clare was suddenly wearing lipstick after the deep kiss with Lucky. The change was noticeable and the art was inconsistent this time. While not bad, occasionally people would look rather retro. Also, if that Awakened One was once a Claymore, she should have known that just twisting a neck wouldn’t keep a Claymore out of action for even a minute.

Haha, although it’s hard to be jealous when the girl can make guys puke by opening her shirt…

I almost believed Ophelia for a minute when she pretended to reconcile with Clare when the AO showed her power.

And the recent emphasis on survival needs a Destiny’s Child theme song!

That’s no lipstick. Just look at your first cap. Obviously, Clare has been hiding some ketchup under her armor. Reminds me of the “Got Heinz?” campaign actually.

I was suspicious of Ophelia encouraging Clare, since Ophelia had earlier stated that she could take on the AO alone. However, I thought perhaps that she did want to put a hold on their battle until the AO was defeated; I was not expecting her to throw Lucky to the monster.

As for the first cap, at first I thought Ophelia was Opheeling up Clare (u c wut I did thar?), but really she was sampling Clare’s plasma. Not that that is any less odd.

After thinking it through, I started wondering what would happen if you cut the arms off of a dyslexic Claymore. Would they attach their arms to the wrong stumps? Would you have to chop the arms off again to put them on the right way? Hmmmm, the world of Claymore is deep indeed!

I have a question. . .in the beginning of the ep the dude from the org is telling claire that the ao was a former single digit claymore, yet when that ao finaly arrived, it was in the form of a little girl. . . .How did the little girl become a single digit Claymore? Or Did I miss something somewhere?

It’s possible that the little girl had mad 1337 skills, or it is possible that the Awakened One was simply taking the form of a little girl. As I recall, regular Yoma can appear as any person they like, so it’s hard to say if the AO really looked like that little girl in her pre-Awakened days.

I watched it for the first time last week after reading the manga. I really like the anime version, it matched with what I expected. I also think the OP and ED are well suited.
