I had read about redirecting RSS feeds through Feedburner recently, and I was intrigued. Although I would prefer it if Wordpress had a way to track your stats without a third party (I believe Wordpress.com blogs now do), Feedburner claims to give a lot of information about how your RSS feeds are used.
Quite frankly, I don’t really know what people do with our feeds. I know they are useful for the various aggregators out there (e.g. AnimeBlogger Antennae and AnimeNano, now that Blogsuki appears to be dead), and I also know that evil feed-scraping spam blogs use the RSS (“Really Simple Stealing”) in order to steal content. I really don’t know how many people read the SS!AB feed on their computers, or how often the feed even gets used. Obviously, these would all be nice things to know.
So anyway, Feedburner has officially adopted a Wordpress plugin that allows for simple redirecting of your RSS feeds to your Feedburner feeds. Essentially it lets you monitor your RSS feeds. The plugin was easy enough to install, and when I click on my own RSS links, they take me to a nicely formatted Feedburner page, as opposed to the raw RSS pages that I used to see.
I’m hoping that if you ever decide to ditch Feedburner and drop the plugin, your readers will not be affected. Please let me know if you see any wackiness in your RSS feeds, or if you have some insight/suggestions about the SS!AB feed.
