All the Union troops left to ambush a large Deague force that is amassing elsewhere. Sara tells everyone of Ralph’s devolution into a crazed, murderous lolicon, and expands on the story of the Emilolis (aka the “UK unknown”). It seems that when Ralph defeated his last Emiloli, she sent her thoughts and memories into him, and he went nutso. Also, somehow in the process of using the Warp Star Gate as a wormhole through space and time, a rock hit Ralph in the face… These things happen.
Ralph is still puking up blood, and Captain Medlock (whose first name is Vivian) asks to use the bathroom before being executed. On their way over, Ralph collapses, and Medlock grabs Emily and abandons ship. On her way out, she pushes the self-destruct button and sends an SOS to the Union ship. She is granted safety in return for Emily, but now Ralph is ramping up to ramming speed. Lotti decides that Sara is part of the crew, and should be allowed to help destroy the Deague ship before everyone is blown to bits.
This episode had some nice pacing, and also some disturbing imagery. The second Ralph flashback shows piles of mutilated bodies tossed aside, and it seems that the act of warping has scrambled both his innards and his brains. Also interesting was the sub-lightspeed tactics discussed, where reinforcements can arrive very quickly due to the nature of the combat.
Not that it was all battle and gore. There was a bit of onii-chan yelping and some very sketchy Emiloli kissing. I found it odd how little the Union knows about the Deague, as Martha believes that all Deague women just wear bath towels. However, the Union captors don’t believe in giving prisoners pants, so Medlock will have just have to suffer a few more episodes.
