Maria has a bad dream/flashback where Mizuho saves Takako instead of Maria. When she wakes up, she’s caught a bad cold. In the foreshadowing event of seeing some posters about avoiding suspicious people, we learn that Mizuho has to be the “male” escort of all the girls who show up to the Christmas Eve dance alone.
Mizuho takes advice from Kei and decides to face Mara’s confusing fem-games head-on. Blowing past Maria’s defenses, he uses semantics to somehow get Maria topless. He then proceeds to get his hands all over her under the pretense of sponge bathing. This manly behavior sways Maria’s heart and she asks Mizuho on a date. Naturally they have a ton of fun and Maria is re-energized, even though she is still a bit sad about the natural distance that the platonic shield has kept between her and Mizuho. On the way home, Maria and Mizuho happen upon some scumbags that are trying to kidnap Takako for a ransom. Mizuho owns them but takes a cut to the fake boobs in the scuffle, and Takako finally figures out Mizuho’s secret.
Awesome episode that went again towards establishing Mizuho’s tremendous (albeit odd) mojo. I mean, on the one hand Mizuho is cross-dressing and being forced to be all girly, but on the other hand he is still able to attract some top-notch females with the power of his pheromones. I dunno what Mizuho did after Maria left him a timid boy, but at some point the kid really started working out and hitting the weights. Suddenly the dunk and the jump-and-carry didn’t seem so far-fetched as he completely owned the suit-thugs and saved Takako. Just an outstanding performance, without even getting into how he managed to get to second base on his childhood friend.
Meanwhile, on the non-mojo side of things, it was interesting watching Takako and Maria wrestle with their feelings about Mizuho. Maria has a double-edged advantage as a childhood friend, but she can’t get over her awkwardness and passes off her advances as jokes. Meanwhile, I don’t know how Takako is feeling after realizing she is not really yuri-bait. Can’t wait to see the next episode!
