It’s school festival time, and every year the student council lets the student body vote for one presentation. The student body votes for Romeo & Juliet, with Mizuho as Romeo and Takako as Juliet. Mizuho is nervous about the idea, but decides to take the role so that he and Kana can be nervous stars together. While Maria wonders if it is a plot to humiliate Mizuho on-stage, Takako cannot decide if Mizuho is a friend or an enemy.
Meanwhile, Maria starts getting all emo and jealous. It starts when Takako shoots a zinger telling Maria not to be so proud of the vote in episode 7, as Mizuho did most of the work. Maria takes it really hard as she’s always been the force driving Mizuho and now it seems like Mizuho is kind and confident without Maria’s help. However, Mizuho still treats Maria kindly, leading to strange lonely and self-loathing feelings.
Awesome episode! At last we get some of the stuff that has been bubbling under the surface. Maria is starting to realize her feelings for Mizuho while Shion suspects that Takako is developing fake-yuri feelings for Mizuho. It was totally awesome how Maria got all weird and began avoiding Mizuho, as it’s not like Mizuho has any way to know that Maria is in love with him. They even brought up the whole role reversal theme finally. Just great realistic drama all around.
The flashbacks were all super cute, especially the one with Mizuho as the noisy (cicada?) tree. The kiss rehearsal was also charming as Takako unexpectedly fainted afterwards… girl’s gotta stop lacing her corset so tight.
