There really hasn’t been much action on the anime front due to the holidays and Rengou Vs. ZAFT II. However, I felt compelled to at least mention my latest favorite!
Just What the Doctor Ordered:
- Ghost Hunt: This rather niche series didn’t appear to have a very strong premise on the outset, but some strong recommendations kept me going till the show found its groove. I have to say that I’m a fan of Naru’s scientific methods and high tech instruments (which are realistically portrayed as being very cumbersome to set up and use). Mai makes for a very likeable heroine who’s fun to watch, and her chemistry (or lack thereof) with the cold and logical Naru-the-Narcissist is quite entertaining. I also appreciate the small dashes of humor interspersed between the oodles of tension-building scenes - just the right amount, mind you, as the producers could have easily turned this into an SD-filled high school romantic comedy (which I would have watched anyways, since Naru and Mai make a strangely amusing couple!).
What I Caught from the Public Bathroom Doorknob:
- Welcome to the NHK!: The ending was somewhat less than stellar, feeling more like a cheesy live-action dorama rather than the quirky anime it started as.
Frozen Solid:
- Soukou no Strain, Sumomo mo Momomo: Where be them subs, arrrrrg? On the plus side, there’s more Rozen Maiden. Yay-desu!

S-Strain is in the middle of the first of two two-week pre-emptions. The last raw out was 9.
I didn’t really know what to expect from Ghost Hunt except that it had a cool name but after the second arc I was completely hooked. Dolls plus horror equals win in every situation! I secretly wish it -would- turn into a high school romantic comedy though but don’t tell anyone.
Rozen Maiden had completely twisted my perception of those dolls, portraying them as lively and quirky beings. Ghost Hunt’s second arc reminded me of why those things are actually extremely creepy!
