Soukou no Strain 04

Lotti tries to rush Ralph, but cannot keep up with his Gloire. Fortunately, Sara tags in and puts Lotti on Tumor duty. Sara and Ralph are evenly matched but when they go for the climatic clash and fall sequence, Sara decides at the last second not to stab Ralph in the face. This allows Ralph to retreat, and Sara can’t chase him because her Ink runs out of Mercurion. In the aftermath, Lotti is pissed that Sara is not just some scrub Gambee pilot, but Melchisedec makes up a story about Sara being part of a classified project involving the Ink Strain (which still needs to be calibrated properly). Now under Melchisedec’s command, Sara gets a nice closet in the workshop to sleep in.

Over at the Deague ship, Colonel Barrow thinks that one sample should be enough, but Captain Medlock overrules him. She then proceeds to “take Ralph’s report” after drinking some wine and getting naked. We also learn that the Deague are not skilled at using Mercurion for fuel and that because of insufficient Selen, the Gloire Strain is unstable. Were the Tumors that attempted to board the ship after EMLY or something involving Mercurion technology?

Quite a lot happened this episode! We get a shot of Lotti’s brother who was killed at Glabella, and no doubt he will appear in a flashback. I find it strange that Melchisedec has so much authority, and the mystery of EMLY and the Ink Strain will probably persist for a few more episodes. It was nice of Carmichael to make EMLY that dress to complete the gothloli look, but Sara’s penchant for talking to EMLY is getting a bit disturbing.

The new Reasoners seem an interesting bunch. Lavinia will undoubtedly be a kooky admirer of Sara, but will butch Martha allow it?! Ralph remains hard as ever, but the Emily hug and the fact that he still has Sara’s scroll suggest that he is doing what he thinks is best for Sara and the rest of the universe. I also have little doubt that Ralph is just sleeping with Captain Medlock to further his goal and help Emily. Sometimes you have to take one for the team.

Is this really a shower scene? Looks more like a toilette scene to me.

In the future, that is what showers look like when you are on a spaceship.

Isn’t a microwave much more comfortable?
