Kabitzin’s November 2006 List

I swear every year I complain about the winter season, although it hasn’t been all bad. I guess my problem with winter seasons in general is that they tend to be rather top heavy; past the first few goodies, the rest are typically duds. The stuff I’ve been enjoying this month has been mostly silly but entertaining.

Top Five This Month:

  1. CODE Geass: I think the moment when the cat ran off in the Zero helmet sealed the deal for me. When the Athrun sunglasses made their debut, that was just the icing on the cake.
  2. Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru: The emergence of a pseudo-plot with mystery kicks this series up a notch. Apparently Sachiho was such an ideal woman that even her son’s interpretation of her is considered the best the school has to offer. How long before an onsen/class trip/cultural festival/beach episode? Also, the eyecatches are amazing, although somewhat disturbing.
  3. Sumomomo Momomo: This show is so dumb, so wrong, and so pre-harem. I am ashamed at myself for being entertained by the stupidity.
  4. Hataraki Man: This show has me hooked, even though I’m not really sure about what the point is. Hiroko’s coworkers form a strong cast, and I am impressed by Tanaka’s laziness.
  5. None: Yeah, it’s been a slow month for me.

Rising:

  • Soukou no Strain: Ender recommended it. We’ll see… I asked if it was like Soul Link and he countered with “it seems like Stellvia’s depressed cousin.” Now that is intriguing.
  • Statistics and Harem Betting: Exhibit A and Exhibit B. Can we get a fantasy league set up for something like this? What would the categories be?

Falling:

  • None: Most of the shows I was watching this month have either been holding steady or awaiting subbage.

Have you tried Asatte no Houkou? It’s got this awesomely relaxing feeling to it that I can’t even begin to try and put into words. I’d probably have put Sumomomo higher because I find the comedy and satirical nature of the show to be a higher quality than what I get from the other shows this season.

Stellvia’s depressed cousin? That seals the deal. I’m checking it out.

Soukou no Strain’s director also did Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Depression must be his specialty.

Your comments form a potent 1-2 punch… you are name-dropping like a pro now.

Same ep but it was Nanaly kissing Suzaku/Lelouch that did it for me. I’m now looking forward to their deathmatch following Nanaly’s death. :)

    Asshat!

seriously, does anyone else get lazy and call it that?
Altho’ it’s fun and it filled the void Aria left after it went all cat-filled in the second season.

as for Geass (I went into a fit of laughter when I heard how it was pronounced), I personally got hooked when they had Norio Wakamoto pop in as the crazy emperor; he managed to be the perfect asshole antagonist:)

The recurring pizza hut ads are pretty awesome too :D
I’m just dissapointed that kekkaishi is getting ignored by everyone ._.

it might be typical shounen; but it’s good typical shounen.

I already have an anime fantasy league going…

Do you mean this league? I was talking more about girls/guys in specific harem series, giving it more of a schedule/position/stats feel to it. Like you can only play one harem male a week or whatever, without being as subjective. If your pick isn’t featured in that episode, it’s almost like a DNP: Coaches Decision or something. I want to hear more ideas on this!
