Hataraki Man 02

There’s a hot rumor of some special Olympics going down between a shady coach and his star track and field athlete, and Weekly Jidai is trying to get the scoop. However, when Harihan (”short for harikomi-han, where harikomi is stake-out or surveillance, and han is a group or a squad”) photographer Sugawara Fumiya goes to get some racy pictures, his cover gets blown and the mission is a failure. Meanwhile, Hiroko finishes her assignment early, but is dissatisfied with her work because she was unable to get a key interview, and had to rely on some round-about analysis.

The chief suggests that Fumiya take a female along, but Kaji’s already gone home, Yumi’s on assignment, and Mayu falls asleep if it’s dark. Seeing as Hiroko’s date night has just been cancelled by Shinji, Hiroko agrees to accompany Fumiya. However, there is a ton of tension between Hiroko and Fumiya because Hiroko was with the Harihan for a short period of time, but transferred out because she disliked the work. Secretly, Fumiya also dislikes the work, but at the same time he takes pride in the quality of his work. The mission nearly fails when a nosy woman (the same that caught Fumiya last time) tries to spy on the duo, but Hiroko puts on a make-out act, and after a few voyeuristic moments, the snoop leaves. While Fumiya is unable to get a usable shot, both Hiroko and Fumiya recognize each other’s dedication to producing conclusive results, and an uneasy rapport is established.

This was a character building episode, as we get a few quirks explained. Apparently, in order to counter the effects of man-mode, Hiroko is constantly stuffing large tubes of natto-maki down her throat. See, natto-maki has isoflavone in the natto’s soybeans serving as a natural estrogen. Yup, feels just like an episode of Yakitate. We also see that Fumiya is rather boyish, “hating” Hiroko cause he’s on the prowl and attracted to her personality. Fortunatly, Hiroko figures him out pretty easily and doesn’t give him any play.

I wonder if the reason that Shinji keeps denying Hiroko is because of her nasty natto breath? Or could it be the side effects of man-mode?! Meanwhile the coach-athlete storyline was awesome. Better win that gold, or I’ll kick you to the curb!

This show is pretty cool. I’m definitely enjoying it! Oh and she needs to get some play, badly.
