Saito is all angsty, as any good shounen hero should be, so Louise has no choice but to leave with Ward. She agrees to marry Ward, and leaves on an airship for the floating continent of Albion. Louise completes her mission of offering Crown Prince Wales Tudor political amnesty, but he declines, saying he must protect his country from the shadowy forces causing the civil war.
At this point, Ward decides to make his move. After Ward molests Louise, his blonde buddy turns her SEED with a funky purple ring. Ward then tries to marry Louise, but Saito busts in at the last minute (tracking her using Belldandy’s memory of the smell of the Water Ruby). Saito manages to power up and use Derflinger to absorb spells, but Ward stabs the Crown Prince and escapes with the letter that he stole while groping Louise. Louise is sad that the evil society of Reconquista won, so Saito takes advantage of her emotional vulnerability and makes out with her in the backseat of Tabitha’s ride.
Although the art was occasionally bad in this episode, the action was pimptastic. Everyone was working their mojo hard, but in the end Louise loves smooth-skinned faces. Clearly the message of the episode is that facial hair is evil. Henrietta is going to be pissed when she hears what happens.
The Saito power-up was a disappointing dash and slash, but the magic absorption totally reminded me of the Jedi Knights using lightsabers to absorb Sith lightning. Ah, the political drama!
