Zero no Tsukaima 08

It’s summer vacation, and the story branches off to cover Saito making Louise jealous, Kirche learning about Tabitha’s angsty past, and Montmorency trying to make Guiche her love slave.

Kirche goes to visit Tabitha’s home, and can’t help but feel affinity with her fellow exchange student. It seems both were forced to study abroad for being “nuisances”, and Tabitha’s story is one of juicy political intrigue. It seems Tabitha’s hotshot Duke of a dad was sniped by a assassin 5 years ago so that his brother Joseph could ascend the throne of Gallia. Later, some jerk tried to give Tabitha some cursed water to make her all fugly and crazy, but her mother saved Tabitha by drinking the water instead. Now Tabitha’s mom thinks that Tabitha’s doll is the daughter and that Tabitha is a secret agent of the royal family. Kirche learns all this and wants to help Tabitha out, since the royal family keeps giving Tabitha nearly-impossible tasks.

Meanwhile Louise is dealing with the problem of keeping Saito’s mojo in check. She can’t deal with how much Saito loves large breasts and how his rune allows him to come in constant contact with large breasts. Things really come to a boil when Saito fashions a Japanese hot bath and gets Siesta in the tub with him (with a sneaky ambush). Louise can’t believe her eyes, and downs a stiff drink; unfortunately, the stiff drink contains the love potion that Montemorency brewed for Guiche.

There was a whole lot of ying-yang type relationships in this episode. For instance, while water can flood your house or turn your mom all crazy, it can also compel hot maids to get naked and join you in the hot tub. However, the dangers of going too far are illustrated in Louise going from super-bitchy to annoyingly love-sick. Then there is the whole dichotomy of the good and evil of breasts as they can be used to make a person super jealous or used to soothe away nightmares. Apparently the writers want all viewers to know that breasts and water are not inherently evil or good.

I know that story about Tabitha (aka Charlotte) was supposed to make me like her or something, but really it just made me think about Evangelion. I mean, it’s not as if the connection was strong enough before, so it’s good that they added the whole doll thing. Also, if Tabitha’s dad was so uber, why did he get one-shotted by an arrow? And why did her mom have to drink the evil potion to save Tabitha? These two things don’t compute!

I liked Kirche a lot in this episode for being a good friend.

Im a firm believer that breasts ARE inherently evil. While they may be able to lull you to sleep and wash away your nightmares, they also slowly creep into your subconsious(purposefully, of course) and force you to fantasize about them day and night. The good traits of the breast are just cover-ups to hide its true image and goal, which is to conquer the world and put women on top(not like thatd be a bad thing).

Definitely props to Kirche. I often wonder if Im the only one that thinks she offers something more than big boobs to this anime…and sometimes Im not so sure myself.

[...] I was wondering why being from Gallia would exclude Tabitha from the Knights of Ondine, and then I remembered something. Like ZOMG, this Joseph is the same Joseph that had his brother killed and his sister-in-law turned [...]
