During class, Saito finally catches on to why everyone calls his master Zero no Louise. Understandably, Louise is angered by Saito’s irreverent tone, and denies him meals and lodging. The only thing that saves him from starving is Siesta, who brings him to his adoring fans in the kitchen. Marto and the crew are so happy that Saito beat down Guiche, and yet is so humble.
Afterwards, Kirche kidnaps and seduces Saito (in spite of frequent interruptions from other jilted lovers). This really drives Louise nuts, because the Zerbst and Valiel houses have an antagonistic relationship. To help Saito defend himself, Louise buys Saito a cheap sword (she is broke after buying an expensive remedy to save Saito), but the rusty boroboro sword is more than meets the eye. As soon as Saito’s awesome sword skill awakens Derflinger, the sword starts mouthing off, and Saito finds his partner in crime.
It’s funny how Saito mentions that frilly underwear is harder to wash. Ahhh, it’s not easy being a girl! It’s also not easy being a geometric shape, and you just know that Louise is going to end up being the first pentagon. I appreciate Louise’s tsundere act, because it makes sense for her to be so hostile at first, due to her ostensible lack of magical skill. I also like Saito, who is rather mouthy, and realizes his situation. Unlike most harem magnets, Saito seems aware that all the girls like him, although he is still prone to wanting to catch them all. Like Pokemon (which most of the familiars seem to resemble).
I snickered when Louise told the NPC merchant that she wanted something longer and thicker, but the merchant gave Saito a rapier/saber. And how about that 3 hour grope-festhorse ride (so that’s why she had a crop…)?
