Shikeripetim’s Emperor, Yue, sends a group of messengers to order the country of Tusukuru to submit to annexation. Hakuoro plays it cool, and the messengers take it for weakness, but Yue is shrewd enough to realize that Hakuoro is no fool. The Shikeripetim forces are 10x as large as Tusukuru’s, and Hakuoro has to come up with a brilliant plan to defeat a superior enemy. First, however, he orders Shikinaro to get him some more Herapetta so he can celebrate his inevitable victory all night long.
Eruru notices that Hakuoro’s order is taboo for another reason: it’s got the ingredients to make a bomb. Hakuoro willingly withdraws all the defenders out of one of his castles, allowing the Shikeripetim forces to capture the castle with ease. However, once all the Shikeripetim troops move in their supplies, Hakuoro has Oboro plant the bomb, and then they move in to slaughter the survivors. Eruru and Aruru want to be a real family and learn everything about Hakuoro, so he agrees to let them watch how unfeeling he has to be in order to protect his country. Yue joins the battle at the end, but with the fire causing the building to collapse, Yue has no choice but to retreat and swear that they will meet again.
It was only a matter of time before the action started up again, and I was pleased at how tactical Hakuoro is. Instead of withdrawing everyone for a Helm’s Deep standoff, he is wise enough to realize that other hungry countries will attack if he pulls all his border troops. What I don’t understand is why Shikeripetim never attacked before, considering how poorly trained Inkari’s troops were and what a fool Inkari was. It must have been that pesky fog of war. The plan to put up a stiff resistance to buy time and then destroy the Shikeripetim supply train was brilliant, and I’m sure Hakuoro has a few more surprises for Yue’s forces.
I knew it couldn’t just be that the Tusukuru soldiers sucked; really it was Nuwangi’s fault. Under intelligent orders, the soldiers performed admirably against a larger force, earning Benawi his first major win… finally. Meanwhile, while Oboro is good for taking out scrubs, more and more characters are treating him like the very weakest of Hakuoro’s fighters. Oh well, at least he comes with twin archers.
