I was listening to this new Kanye West song (featuring Lupe Fiasco), and wasn’t paying that close attention because I was waiting for some drive-thru. However, one line in “Touch the Sky” caught my ear:
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Guess who’s on Third
Lupe Steal Like Lupin the Third
Here like year till I’m beer on the curb
Peach fuzz buzz but been on the verge
Wow, so like barely any of this stanza makes any sense, but who cares. Mad love for good ‘ole Lupin!

You are a traitor to the world and you fail at life.
Just thought I’d let you know.
huh? traitor? I wonder if Kanye West watches a lot of anime?
Haha. I caught that the first time I heard it…
but its Kanye, so I thought It’d be referring to something else
rooooooooooooooopaaan sansei~~!#!
Not only did he mention Lupin but he also mentioned “Peach Fuzz” which is an Original English Language Manga (OLE) written by Lindsay Cibos and Jared Hodges and published by TokyoPop. The manga has recently started to appear as a comic strip in many US and Canadian newspapers like the Los Angeles Times, Denver Post, Vancouver Sun and Seattle Post-Intelligencer. Since he knows about Peach Fuzz, he probably is a manga fan.
Just to clarify, that verse is by another Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco. From what I hear he is into a fair share of anime/manga.
I don’t know about Kanye West, though.
I miss buying Lupin DVD’s…*sigh* What I’d really like to get me back into it is the release of the first season, (Green coat is the best coat!) with all the yummy ultra-violence and blood letting. And uh, yeah respect Kanye!:)
Was Lupin broadcasted on MTV anyway? I bet he just thought it would be a good idea to pay hommage to another cool rapper (Loopy? Loopin?) with this muddafuggin ameba video. Ya kno’ oleskool b1tch3z!!1
Ah crap. I meant “was not”. I’m rather sure it was shown on MTV Europe several years go.
In the Kick Push video Lupe is also seen sporting a Wicked City shirt.
Yeah, he’s a fan of anime, writes about it in his blogs, was sportin a doreaman plush key chain at his concert,
