Am I being too cynical when I say I’m amazed at how well all the good series have been finishing up? Although I am scared of the coming season (perhaps I will get to catch up on the backlog now), I really like how the fall series are wrapping up. Most of my top shows have held pretty steady, and even Mai Otome has been entertaining even in the wake of one disaster (noooo Takumi’s back!) and the track of another (arrrg, Hurricane Mai any day now). I prefer to call them El Niño and La Niña. Anyway without any further ado, here’s my holiday roundup.
Top Five This Month:
Suzuka: Oh man, we’re still going strong, and I can’t wait to see how it ends. More and more it’s looking like Honoka is a lock for the Akane-Mai-Hime award, as fate, Yamato, and the animators conspire against her. I’m betting that Yamato ends up in the orz position and Suzuka gets arrested for beating her frog. Bring on 2 x 2 = Miki!
Rozen Maiden Träumend: Wah, drama. I like the stronger creepy undercurrents they’re vibing this season. I’m worried next month Suisei Seki might get taken down and be out of the story for a few episodes, though.
Hana Yori Dango (Live Action): Soujirou throws a hadouken for the win. This TOJ thing is looking delightfully cheesy as well, so I’m hoping it goes out with a bang.
Bleach: Aizen, you bishie bastard!!! I can’t believe you pulled the Clark Kent act on all those Shinigami! And then the blind guy pulled the wool over fox-head. What is this world coming to?!
Paradise Kiss: I finally got around to marathoning this series, and I enjoyed what I saw. I guess it’s unfair to expect it to be as good as Honey & Clover, but Aniplex sure has been doing a good job. I did get uncomfortable KareKano manga-ending vibes from Yukari, but thankfully the disaster was averted.
Rising:
Shakugan no Shana: My expectations have fallen a lot, and now I am easily amused by all the characters. The twisted love pentagon or whatever has caught my interest, and the fact that they added twincest is the plum on the back of this onigiri.
Gun X Sword: Some good episodes got fansubbed this month, and the storyline is bringing me back into the fold, in spite of Van going psycho every 5 minutes.
Falling:
None: But don’t worry, I’m sure there will be tons of bad winter shows coming out next month!
