Suzuka 18

Yamato lays on the bed thinking about how to get a present for Honoka’s birthday and realizes he needs to score some boyfriend points. He lies about going out with Yasunobu to get out of doing something with Honoka on Saturday, and then consults all the girls he knows to find out what would be a good present. Yasunobu naturally mentions that he has had a 100% success rate with red roses, Megumi suggests a ring (this is the one character who is even more hopeless than Yamato…), and Miho suggests a plushie (too bad Honoka already has a teddy bear). Ayano, Yuuka, and Suzuka end up having the most useful suggestions, and Yamato actually recruits Suzuka to help him buy a present.

Suzuka realizes what they’re doing is pretty sketchy and so has them shop in far-away Shinjuku. Too bad Yuuka ends up spoiling the surprise for Honoka while they’re gone; still, Yamato eventually finds the perfect necklace for Honoka (at a stall run by that crazy Free Tickets Girl). When he returns to Tokyo, Honoka hears Yamato talking happily with Suzuka. Still, Honoka is pretty cool about everything when Yamato gives her the present, and he did start to tell her the truth after all. However, at this point the inevitable trainwreck finally happens, as Yamato starts babbling on and on about how he spent so much time with Suzuka looking for the necklace, and finally Honoka has to just tell him OMGSTFU and run inside her house crying.

Another fabulous episode, this one had me constantly anticipating everything going to hell from the moment Yamato lied about hanging out with Yasunobu. The final blowup was actually much more minor than I expected, although a tearful Honoka rushing off without even opening her birthday present is hardly a rousing victory. She even bought all that food for Yamato; damn, he seriously has no sense. He’s definitely trying to improve, but a good boyfriend isn’t built overnight. Honoka made an effort to be totally cool, but if I was her, I probably would have kicked Yamato in the nuts at the end.

Meanwhile, I loved all the screen time that Suzuka got. I swear she’s a sucker for pain, and I feel like she and Yamato deserve each other. The way she asks certain questions, you can tell she’s got that “I want to know, but I know I really don’t want to know” look on her face. For instance, what if Yamato actually had been reading a pr0n magazine? What would she have done?! What if Yamato had started babbling about how he had a great date and ended up making out with Honoka for hours while admiring her soft lips? Can you imagine Suzuka giving that “Ok, I’m trying to be stoic about this, but OMFG I feel like I’m going to puke in my mouth” look and staring into space as Yamato goes on and on?

Free Ticket Girl continues to be bought in as a matchmaker. She should really be charging fees. Are they planning on giving her a name at some point in this series? Time’s running out!

    > Oh nooooes, caught with pr0n!!!
Well, at least it wasn’t yaoi pr0n. LOL

Coming up next week, Honoka-chan demands that Yamato prove his love for her by demanding Suzuka’s head as a substitute birthday present! But Suzuka, with her camo-shinobi sidekick Miki, will instead seek to turn the tables on the miko!

Sounds like the famous Honoka diaries get crazier than ever ;)

Suzuka definitely scored in this episode. First accusing him of reading pr0n – since when is she joking? And then she helped Mr Monkey. She wore really cool boots, that surprised me too. However, Honoka came off a tidbit over-sensitive for my taste. On the other hand, their relation seems more like a partnership training camp. They are not even really friends, they just consider each “cute”. I find his relationship with Suzuka more interesting. That can turn into something despite the first rushed attempts. I suspect Honoko will end up with Mr Bear who would never lie to her or hurt her.

I’ll bet this is all a plot by Free Tickets Girl to cause angst between all parties involved, so that she can grab Yamato for herself when the dust clears!

Haha! I was totally thinking the same thing about Free Tickets Girl. I mean, how many freaking part time jobs does she have? Or is she possibly a stalker…?

I had been pondering in my mind how it could work out so that Yamato didn’t end up with any of the main ladies. I think this Free Tickets Girl thing could fly. If this was a computer game, Free Tickets Girl would probably be the “Bad Ending”.

It’s a real shame that Yamato is using Honoka as a test run for Suzuka. Dang, maybe Suzuka is just waiting for him to level up before she issues an order for Miki to “deal with the competition” during a tragic track/field accident…

I would think the “bad” ending would be the one where he tragically dies in a freak car accident, or where he ends up alone and depressed. Who knows, Free Tickets Girl might have some really angsty convoluted backstory. That would be like the “secret ending”.

Oh yeah, and I bet that Suzuka secretly receives high frequency signals through her antenna.

She also receives RSS feeds from her favorite anime blogs.

Suzuka would go even higher in my book if it had one of the alternate endings like “School Days”

I have shamefully stolen some of your sentences, Kabitzin, to make kewl signatures in the animesuki forum.

And I had to go there -> http://www.eddiejennings.net/dictionary.html to check what OMGSTFU means.

Your comments are absolutely ‘roxorz’ ….

When Yamato suggested shopping in Ikebukuro, only to have Suzuka insist on Shinjuku, it left me scratching my head. I mean, if Ikebukuro is too close to home, how exactly is Shinjuku safe? They’re only 8 minutes away from each other on the Yamanote Line. Clearly, it was a set-up. Well played, Asahina-san!

    Then again…

When Yamato is spilling his guts to Honoka, he mentions that him and Suzuka ended up in Shibuya before all was said and done. Coming from Ikebukuro (or thereabouts), that’s past Shinjuku on the Yamanote Line. But, that’s where Honoka spied Suzuka and Yamato on the street. So, why did Honoka travel all the way to Shibuya for groceries? Clearly, she’s hiding something.

Oh, and Yasunobu has the hots for Yamato. Clearly. I just don’t have the evidence to back it up yet…
