The second season starts with a flashback, and it seems to be a blonde Father creating Shinku as Suigin Tou, Sousei Seki, and Suisei Seki look on. Back in reality, Jun is absent on the last day of class, and is ashamed of his lack of algebra skillz. Tomoe helps him out by giving him some notes and his summer homework. Not that it will be easy to concentrate with all the usual ruckus in his room.
Jun has to burn the midnight oil, as he continues to be completely owned by math. Shinku, however, also can’t sleep; it seems she does not want to be troubled again by her nightmares about Suigin Tou. As Jun and Shinku talk about her dreams, they notice Mei-Mei, Suigin Tou’s artificial spirit. Following it into the mirror, they meet the mysterious Rabbit who likes to speak in riddle-esque phrases and also busts out the Gokigenyou. After mumbling some cryptic garbage, he escapes and the pursuit of Mei-Mei leads Jun and Shinku into an ambush. Now, they’re face to face with the 7th Rozen Maiden, Bara Suishou.
The second season starts up with much of what I loved in the first season, but it seems like we’ll get more story this time around. I haven’t read enough of the manga to be sure of the connection between the “Alice Game” and the Rabbit that so resembles the rabbit in Alice in Wonderland. I’m pretty hopeful that more loose ends will get tied up and that the characters will get fleshed out more. Of course I also enjoyed the hijinks around the house, what with Hina Ichigo changing the scissors into a crocodile and the watering can into a woolly mammoth. The girl’s brilliant!
And cheers for bringing back the truth alligator, cause that thing rocks.
