After a completely spoilerific opening sequence, we get a flashback about our narrator, Sakai Yuuji. He’s bored with his life, and feels like the beginning of his highschool career is unfolding just like School Rumble. Still, there are some benefits, like meeting Tsukamoto Tenma Hirai Yukari. After class, the two of them do a little talking at the CD store, but as Yuuji heads home, he sees some FMA-esque blue symbol-circles pop up and time stops. Next thing he knows, a ball-head and a giant evil baby are sucking out everyone’s souls, and he’s the only one that realizes something is wrong!
Yuuji sees Yukari getting her soul sucked, and yells out. Giant Evil Baby is shocked that Yuuji can move, and the monsters realize that he is a “mistess”, a torch that has a treasure inside. They want to take him back to their master, but at that moment Shana appears to save the day. Shana’s got flaming hair and eyes, a katana, and a talking amulet named Alastor; clearly she is the Flame Haze. She easily beats up the monsters, but before she can kill the beautiful woman inside Giant Evil Baby, Yuuji foolishly intervenes and gets stabbed in the back. Shana simply cuts through him to kill the woman, and a cute little doll flies out and escapes. Alastor suggests that the monsters want to use what’s inside the mistess to kill the King of the Crimson World, and Shana then heals Yuuji with some minty blue flame.
At this point, Shana decides to shut Yuuji up by giving him some more spoilers. Apparently when people get their soul sucked up, their souls are replaced by blue flame torches to keep the world’s balance. Moreover, Yuuji has been merely a container for a long time, since his soul was taken without him realizing it. Back at Evil HQ, the doll Marianne apologizes to her master.
An interesting first episode, with a nice OP and an even better ED. I love the art style (like I’m watching an animated desktop wallpaper!), and the story has been set up with a nice foundation. Ender and I both agreed there was a touch of Bleach in the story, and it’s no coincidence that Yuuji has become a Hollow. The one thing that slightly annoys me is that many of the characters look similar, making it hard to figure out who is who.

How can you compare Tsukamoto Tenma to Hirai Yukari?! Hirai Yukari is a human being while Tsukamoto Tenma is a member of the unique Tenma species (a species which I have studied for some time now but I still can’t understand)
I just mean how they look. She’s even got those cute little mini-pigtails.
Did you know? The unofficial title was “The Return of Monday-Fliday”. Happy Elda-Taluta.
OMFG… I didn’t even realize. Oh man, now I suddenly want some red shoes and spaghetti…
Yuji was…hollow? Argg, curse your stupid wordplay, Kabitzin!
I know she looks like Tenma but that is where it all ends. After all, how many creatures on this planet have the unique ability of “Oneechan Power”, can move their pigtails at will and can intercept and foil brain waves from mind readers?!
Hirai Yukari WAS a Human Being…
Haha, too many references!
A pretty cool episode though. Will be interesting to see what a male lead without a soul can do.
Oh, and was it only me that found the screams of that giant ball of heads kinda creepy..?
The anime is ok lol.But the second espisode is quite boring.^-^
Eh, I loved Hirai there she was so prettier than that Flame Haze.
The Yoshida person doesn’t look good with Yuuji and Ike and Hirai…eh, I really wanted them together…eh. Oh well,…
