Jason Miao has posted up a nice list of dos and don’ts for anime blogging. It makes for a fun read, especially if you are thinking about starting an anime blog, or just want to read about what others like/dislike in anime blogs. Definitely the first advice I would give to anyone starting fresh would be to make sure you enjoy it (don’t post about an episode just because you feel you have to), have your own style, and update regularly (even if that doesn’t mean daily or weekly).

I have another DONT. Whatever Jason does on his blog to protect against comment spammers, don’t do that. It locks me out too. Alright, this could possibly considered be a DO.
I think he’s running WP Hashcash. It’s possible you get blocked because your browser has javascript turned off (SK2 seems to penalize you for this, but you accrue enough positive karma to get in here).
Spam protection is definitely a must for all bloggers, but it’s also important to check logs once in a while to avoid false positives.
Thanks for the heads-up… Hashcash has its limitations, and I’m probably going to move away from it soon (the script has been broken recently as well). It does require javascript and a non-proxied, non-cached connection.

I use no browser and no cache. My browser supports *some* Javascript, not the whole shebang but it’s usually sufficient. However, I cannot enter anything into the Name/Mail/Website fields over there. It might be an issue of my browser or not. Anyway, I don’t see how this is an improvement over locking out blind people or non-MSIE users. No hard feelings though. That’s just how it is.
That’s not a correct statement because my blog is mostly XHTML valid so any valid browser can view it, including IE, Opera, Firefox, Safari, and Lynx. If you cannot enter into the fields, I don’t think it’s a javascript issue as javascript is only used to generate hashcodes after you hit submit.
But there’s a huge distinction with blindless people miss. Blindness is a condition people cannot remedy… not using javascript or whatever is a person’s choice in browsers and nothing to do with a physical, irremovable handicap. There’s a distinction. You can choose to install Flash or whatnot. You cannot choose to install new retinas.
For Firefox, there is a way to block out Javascript with a tool called Noscript.
With Firefox/Mozilla you can simply disable Javascript but that’s not the problem.
Yesterday, I tried several times to submit a longer answer but it always failed (here) due to problem with the site. Let me try again: Agreed, viewing your site works fine. I also tried Lynx. However, those comment fields cannot be edited either because they’re set to be unmodifiable.
There’s of course a difference between a physical handicap and software problems. Though, it’s not always possible for everyone to install certain software. Flash is also only available for a very few platforms. I know almost every official site about an Anime-Series use it but I don’t miss Flash and those sites obviously don’t miss me. Yes, it is a decision in my case: against Microsoft, close-source software and for portable, secure, open, non-bloated software.
