Now that Yamato’s on the track team, he’s gotta make it through some brutal practices. At first it’s pretty bad, but after a week, the running tensai really gets the hang of it. Freshman runner Hashiba Miki is added to Yamato’s support group, and she gives a lot of insight into Suzuka’s personality (they competed at a lot of the same meets in middle school). As Yamato gets better and better, Honoka gets really sad and wonders why he’s pushing himself so hard.
This is the cue for love doctor Yuka, who overhears Honoka spilling her guts for Gorou-chan. To get to the naked truth, they bathe together, and Honoka learns that Yamato has already confessed to and been rejected by Suzuka. Honoka’s depressed, but she refuses to be the female version of a harem male, and so she joins the track team as the manager. Meanwhile, Miki questions the distraught Suzuka over why she’s being such a bizatch to Yamato, especially since he’s really pushing himself.
First off, thank goodness the animation has climbed up to acceptable levels again. Honoka got a lot of screen time, and it was good to watch her and Yamato trying so hard for the ones they love. I was really amused when Honoka got burned by a bunch of little kids, but at least she recognizes her own weaknesses. And then she got stuck washing everyone’s sweaty laundry instead of chatting it up with Yamato… poor Honoka T__T. Meanwhile, Suzuka pondering happier times makes me think that she was once going out with Photo Guy, but their situation is really complicated in a way that induces massive guilt trips. This means he’s either A. in a coma (ahhh, so KimiNozo!), B. crippled or unable to compete (ahhh, he’s Kagura from Oku-sama wa Mahou Shoujo), or C. dead (ahhh, maybe he haunts Suzuka’s apartment). It’s gotta be one of these three, because there’s no way Suzuka can normally be like this. I suppose there is also that outside chance that he was an alien and left for his home planet, cause you know, these things sometimes happen in anime.
And what was with the lecherous grin that Yamato gave when he spotted Honoka pulling a Girls Bravo? His apology was insincere!
