At long last, we finally get a little more information about the events of 12,000 years ago, as Deava’s unmanned submarine discovers a single feather encased in amber. Rena has a mysterious book from the Sanctity Creator that describes this feather as being sent to the Wings of the Sun in order to end war. Moreover, her book has a picture of the strange skewered statue that was seen in the submerged ruins…
The Elements have the day off, and Sirius and Silvia have a nice sibling moment shopping. However, Sirius gets really upset when Silvia picks out a particular statue of a woman with one wing on her arm. This becomes even more curious when both Rena and Sirius have a strong reaction to the feather being extracted from the amber; Rena goes into a trance and starts babbling like Fudo, and Sirius painfully clutches his bracer as some kind of shameful energy tries to spill out of the jewel. The Shadow Angels are displeased with this development, and Toma has a plan to use Baron to get into Deava HQ. However, not even the Shadow Angels know what “wishes” were put into the feather.
Silvia and Apollo decide to try to find out more about the feather, and sneak into the chamber. When they touch it, Apollo claims that it has a familiar smell, but then clutches his shoulders in pain. The glowing scars appear again on his back, and when Silvia touches them, they are both transported to a crystal cave. There, they remember their past lives; it seems that Apollonius was the Angel of Destruction before Serian totally pussy-whipped him. After that, they were in love, and this resulted in Apollonius’ friends putting hooks into his wings and stringing him up because he skipped out on their poker game to go watch some dumb opera with Serian. Then, when Apollonius’ homeboys catch the skulking Serian and try to execute her, Apollonius tears off his own wings to save her. This was how they ended up using Aquarion to fight against the Shadow Angels. As Apollo and Silvia embrace, the enemy detection alarm goes off, and Toma and Otoha attack Deava HQ in an especially nimble Cherubim Soldier. To make matters worse, it looks like Toma can come inside Apollo’s cockpit like a ghost!
So finally the truth comes out; Sousei no Aquarion is the story of how spending too much time with your new girlfriend will result in a terrible war with your crew that will last over 12,000 years. Even with somewhat lower animation quality, this episode was excellent because we finally got some plot movement. Speaking of the animation, did anyone else notice how the tea that Sophia made wasn’t animated, but seemed to be melded video of real tea (I’m not complaining, it was nicely blended). The one thing that bothered me about this episode was that the “Fire Fist” was actually an open palm strike.
I like how Toma wants Apollo to go back to how they used to be: raining down destruction, pimping four-eyed women, and watching movies or listening to anime music on their Flash wing drives (I wonder how many gigs a single feather can store).

Just until the next episode where things get even more interesting.
