After going after each other with all their power, it looks at first that Kenpachi has the upper hand as Ichigo falls first with a stabbing sword wound to his left side. However, Kenpachi also received a pretty good shot to the right shoulder, and he proclaims that Ichigo has won as he falls down. Yachiru, watching from above, comes down to take Kenpachi’s mangled body away. Yoruichi had also been scouting from the background, and he comes down to take Ichigo’s body away for patching.

Once Yachiru brought Kenpachi to safety, we get to see a flashback to Kenpachi’s and Yachiru’s younger days where Yachiru was basically a baby and Kenpachi was fighting in the “ghetto” soul society district. It was sort of disturbing to see Yachiru being exposed to all sorts of violence, but I guess that’s what happens when a young mind sees such things at an early age. Kenpachi eventually regains consciousness, but eventually succumbs to the fatal injuries. It makes me wonder if the Soul Society is a place for the afterlife, how does one die in the Soul Society?

Meanwhile, Hanatarou and Ganju make it past the lowly guards into Rukia’s captivity cell. But once Ganju took a look at Rukia’s face, he immediately recognizes that she was the one who killed Ganju’s older brother. Enraged, Ganju grabbed Rukia and was about to lay the smack on her when a huge spirit force overcomes the three. They all turn around to the cell door entrance, and Kuchiki Byakuya was approaching the door. Hanatarou does his best imitation to be brave and risk his life to stop Byakuya, but Ganju tosses him aside and declares that he would try to hold him back. Unfortunately, we all know that Byakuya would probably shrug either one aside, but Ganju looks a lot more enthusiastic to try and take him on.
