Not too much plot development in this episode, but a whole buttload of action. Dullindal has united the Earth factions against Blue Cosmos, and brings a massive army to Heaven’s Base, the Cosmos headquarters, to demand their surrender. Jibril and his old fogies are quivering in their boots deep within the confines of the base, but still have some pretty nasty tricks to pull. Instead of sending an official reply, the BC forces simply attack without warning. After recovering from the initial shock, Dullindal orders the counterattack, but is confronted with another surprise in the form of five new Destroy Gundams that proceed to lay waste to the ZAFT forces. If that wasn’t enough, Heaven’s Base activates its Nibelung mass-destruction weapon, which disintegrates all the ZAFT forces in the aerial space surrounding the base.
Fortunately, Dullindal has just what the doctor ordered: Destiny and Legend, with Lunamaria joining them in Shinn’s hand-me-down, the Impulse. Of great importance is that Luna and Shinn shared a pre-slaughter smooch after a short monologue about how she blames Orb for turning Athrun and Meyrin into bastardly rebel scum. I figure she’s pretty much the reincarnation of Frey at this point, though with less crazy-juice in her blood.
As expected, the new Gundams perform admirably against the Destroys. The El Cheapo energy shielding protects them from beam weapons, and their superior mobility allows them to evade missile weapons. Shinn pulls a Kenshin and slices one in half (which is followed by the classic “two-halves sliding apart” animation), and Lunamaria takes down another with the aid of Rey. One of the units is piloted by Sting (who, in typical Gundam fashion, survived the plunge into a body of water), but is pierced by Shinn’s sword after first being slammed with a Destiny-style chidori/rasengan. In the midst of the chaos, Jibril realizes that he’s lost, and leaves his compatriots behind as he escapes in a shuttle.
Meanwhile, back on the Archangel, Athrun wakes up in the sickbay, injured but alive. Apparently Meyrin made it too, and is reportedly in better condition that he is. Strangely enough though, we’re never shown her as being conscious, whereas Athrun has enough energy to resume his angsty posing. They better not have Meyrin die of unexpected complications!
I did like that fact that Impulse’s modular design came in handy during the battle to supply both Luna and Rey with swords. Now that she has a decent unit, Lunamaria has been doing pretty well lately! Her track record with the Zaku was pretty shabby, but I guess we can chalk that up to the limitations of the suit. Also, does anyone else here think that the new opening song is a bit…lame? It sounds too darn relaxed and light-rockish for the what’s going to be the most carnage-filled arc in GSD. At least they brought back Yuki Kajiura and See-Saw for the ending song…

Oops..I actually wrote this like 4 days ago, so it is still in long-format.
Sorry to nitpick but actually I think there were five Destroys and that Chaos got sliced into two by a Murasame with the two bits exploding over Berlin.
As for “the stuff that fanfics are made of”, you should see the pic that Moyism used to headline his GSD 27 post! LOL
Yes, you are right, there were 5 of them. I have corrected the error. About Sting though, I vaguely recall him being fished out of the water after his defeat (otherwise there’s no way he could have survived that kind of drop), so I should have said river instead of ocean. I can’t seem to find that scene again though…
Also, Luna blamed Logos not ORB for turning Meyrin and Athrun. I quickly watched the scene where Chaos was destroyed. There was a river below him. Also, the Murasames only destroyed the bottom part of Chaos not the top part. You couldn’t tell what happened to the top part due to the explosion of the bottom covering it up.
I think you guys are forgetting a VERY important aspect of GS/GSD: unless we get visual confirmation of actual bloody death, one must assume the individual(s) is alive. I think the only exception has been Mwu/Neo, but beside him everyone else has been following this iron-clad law.
Examples: Kira, Athrun, Sting, Auel, Heine, and Stellar.
The Lesson: make sure the camera is NEVER on you when you get your arsed handed to you. 99% of the time you’ll be ensured survival for another ass-whipping.
I disagree on the last three examples. I think they were all actually dead maybe except for Auel. You forgot the one who start the denying death thing which was Andy. I wonder if Astray manga will cover how some of GSD members survive like it did in GS.
Dude, its not a Rasengan, its the DESTINY FINGER!
Destiny….Finger….? They must have been on crack.
so when will Shinn start shouting THAT out hmm? LOL
Shinn will say SHINING DESTINY FINGER OF ANGST!
Yes, and then Shinn will use his Destiny Finger to dial on that cell phone.
I can see that some people here have never watched G Gundam
This hand of mine burns with the light of my anger! It calls for me to reach out and grasp victory! BAKUNETSU! GOD FINGER!
I did watched G Gundam but not in Japanese.
Egad, I’ve seen some of G-Gundam before and figured it was a hopeless attempt to route the Gundam franchise in a different direction. It seemed to be even more unrealistic and extremely cheesy…
凸soo good凸
yes, I do agree….the theme song is definitely lame. I was hoping for something wow amazing considering it was going to be the last one….guess not. The ending theme is good though….
G Gundam is totalli unrealistic… Gundam Wing seems a much better alterantive to watch den tt
Deso athurn and cagalli get back togther again???????????????!!! Please i need a reply !!!
