Samurai Champloo 26 (Final)

Mugen continues to take a severe beating from Patch Wacko, and is forced to listen to a rant about what it’s life to live shamefully. Mugen, however, isn’t impressed, since he’s experienced humiliation many times before. Mugen kinda dodges and runs around a lot, before suddenly making his move, and pile driving Patch Wacko. Using a quick bite to Patch Wacko’s crotch, Mugen utilizes his physics skillz to make Patch Wacko accidentally decapitate himself. Owned. Too bad Wheelchair Wacko was camping the spawn location, and has bullets and rockets at the ready.

On that happy note, Fuu makes it to the shack, and steels her resolve. An old man finds her and takes her inside, where she finds her father. Unfortunately the Sunflower Samurai that Fuu has been searching all this time for is now weak and bed-ridden. Fuu had so much she wanted to tell him, and now she can’t even punch him, because he’s so ill. Frustrated, she tells him goodbye, and turns to leave forever. There’s a quick flashback of when chibi-Fuu and her mother went to pray, and Fuu asked that one day she be allowed to meet her father. The memory brings tears, and the old guy caring for Seizou tells her that he has heard a lot about her. However, before he can say more, Kariya appears in the distance. Kariya has his orders to execute Seizou, and Seizou doesn’t mind, since he’s practically dead anyway. Before Kariya deals the death blow, he allows Seizou to tell Fuu that he never once forgot about her and her mother, and then he apologizes to her. Unfortunately, that’s not the end of it, as Kariya has been told to eliminate the whole family, and on his way out, he even stabs the old guy (what a bastard!!!!!).

Kariya corners Fuu, but Jin shows up in a rather dramatic scene to intervene. Kariya is surprised that Jin returned to fight, as it is clear he is badly injured. Jin recalls how he used to only fight for himself, and remembers Enshirou’s lesson on how to at least battle to a draw with a superior opponent. Jin uses the lesson to his advantage, by baiting Kariya with a small window of opportunity. When Kariya strikes a deadly blow, he finds that it was a trap, and that Jin took the attack in order to strike down Kariya at the very same time. Down below, it seems that Mugen survived Wheelchair Wacko’s attempt at a rocket jump.

Now that Fuu has found the Sunflower Samurai, both Mugen and Jin decide it is time to renew their battle. As the collide, however, their blades both shatter, and the two of them collapse in exhaustion. When they wake up one week later, they find that they no longer have any desire to kill each other; in fact, they have both found true friends for the first time in their lives. The journey ended, the three decide to go their separate ways. However, before they part, Fuu reveals that she tricked them with the coin toss in the first episode. Shocked, Mugen asks, “What was this journey about, anyway?”

Great ending! I know the trio made a wonderful team, but I don’t see how this series could have finished without them parting ways. It just would have been too cheesy. I was happy to see that Fuu still had Momo-san at least. Like most great journeys, Samurai Champloo was all about what happened on the way there, and not about the final destination.

jin and mugen are freelancers and always will be, the only reason they travel together was cuz they agreed to, see how many times they so easily left each other and ended up back together. They really didn’t care if they stuck together or not, in the end they do finish it off, they find fuu’s dad, and also they all have the friendship they have been looking for. They have to go back to trying to be as strong as possible. The only thing i didnt like about the last episode is how they have Mugen admit he is weaker then Jin, and how Mugen gets owned by these random weak people he attacked in the past, seriously he almost gets killed by a guy in a wheelchair.

Mugen never said that Jin was stronger. he said when ever he met someone strong he couldn’t rest until he killed the person. the English translation of it was incorrect, or it was incorrectly dubbed.

My wife and I kinda figured Jin would probably follow Fuu around for awhile because, being Fuu, she would be bound for more trouble. I’d like to see something like Fuu picking up where her father left off with the whole religion thing. Jin jumps in to save her at the nick of time… Mugen gets drawn back in following around the government chick he never got to bang…. Everyone gets together for another series of adventures. Wishful thinking?, -spadefinger-
I think that is a great idea my self except for that i don’t think that Fuu would go into religion i think that she would just get in trouble some how still the writers should consult you lol GREAT IDEA!, oh and geg Mugen just meant that he couldn’t stop thinking about tying to kill the people that he failed at trying to kill, not hat he was better than him he just couldn’t kill him

I watched this show one night on Adult Swim and I was hooked… I watched all the episodes, mostly in order, and towards the end, I found dubbed ones. Even though dubbed, which usually loses some translation value, this was the ABSOLUTE BEST anime I have EVER seen, and probably the greatest show I’ve ever watched. I tend to like comedies alot for their re-watching vlaue, but this absolutely blew everything else out of the water. It makes me sad to think that they might never see each other again and never know what happens to each other, but I think that the ending was perfect. It definitely was different from anything else I’ve ever seen, adding hints to what will happen next (like reuniting in the next town), and it wasn’t overdone or too much of a cliche. I just don’t understand how the characters got out of the way of the meteorite in the episode with the immortals. I’m definitely going to check out what other anime’s are out there, if this was only number 43 on the list of the greatest animes, then I want to see what’s way up there. Glad to hear everyone liked it for the most part, I can’t recommend it enough to the people I talk to!

that was a filler episode, consider the entire embankment as a retelling of their lives. that point where they met the immortal’s could have been any amount of time after (or more likely) before episode 26. because they don’t show every progression that Mugen, Jin, and Fuu make. so there you have it :)

yeah but all those animes are filled with filler episodes. this anime was good because it was true to itself and didn’t completely kill people with filler episodes, had a clear beginning and ending. shows like Naruto, bleach etc will never finish and will therefore never be on the same par as a anime that actually has an end.

thats the magic of imagination, + they do give hints of what they might be doing after they parted ways. for instance mugen may go meet that woman from the brothel that said she was going to marry him. (that was one of the clear ones the rest are imo).

Jin: will either continue being a freelance samurai until the end of his days or start his own school.
Fuu: tbh I don’t really know what she would do now, maybe what was stated above me i.e start the religion thing her dad started, but I doubt she would do that.

      there you have it. :)

But anyways! Ending seems nice enough, a memorable one~ But…an ending with them travelling a bit longer might be a bit more satisfying xD

I bought the anime and really enjoy it. I love the music and the characters, specially Jin. I think they are like a family and Jin is the big brother, protective and . The ending was very good, but I hope Shinichiro Watanabe continues the three friends travel.
    .

Many people seem to ignore the impact of this anime by forgetting the actual historical facts it implicates a bit into the storyline.. Try looking up some of the issues, like the Dutchman and samurai, Christian persocution, and americans/europeans trying to force Japan to open up its ports for trade.

Why does everybody forget what Jin got up to in the series, when they talk about where he might go in the future?

I personally think that he might go find the woman he fell in love with, who had to work at the brothel.

And I think that Mugen would prob go find/be found by that undercover detective woman.

As for Fuu… I doubt she would get into anything religious.

I was sad by the ending. Of course I would want them to start travelling around together till the end of days, but that would have been corny and a crap ending.

The music in this anime is TOP notch. Definitely one of the best. Animation quality is good. And as for those ‘sub par’ episodes. You can’t have the brilliant eps without less so ones.

Ah well, I loved Samurai Champloo, and I am sad to have finished it. Like Fuu’s wishes for her journey, I really wish it could have lasted forever.
