Sousei no Aquarion 10

Moroha, another of the Shadow Angels, complains to his otaku friend Lensi that Toma seems to be the Solar Wing’s only rival. Lensi welcomes to chance to show off his plastic model skillz, and builds Moroha a special blue-purple Cherubim Soldier to pilot. Moroha soon gets to try out his new toy against the squabbling Deava pilots.

Apollo and Sirius are fighting yet again, and there doesn’t even seem to be a reason. Apollo fights dirty and wins their little training exercise, and Fudo talks some jive about how if you pursue the ideal and only look to the sky, you miss the flowers on the ground. This is the cue for Mahora to attack. During the battle, Solar Aquarion gets a beating, and Silvia’s Vector Luna takes excessive damage. Before Moroha can deal the final blow, however, his unit disappears; Lensi mentions that Moroha was too powerful for the new Cherubim unit. Moroha isn’t too upset, saying that the current Solar Wing was a pushover and not worth killing. Still, Moroha understands Toma’s belief that no matter how lame the Solar Wing becomes, the Shadow Angels must not let the Wingless Ones have him.

Silvia is badly hurt, and needs a blood transfusion, and this leads to some more squabbling because Sirius has the same blood type as Silvia and he won’t let Apollo feed her a gigantic, nutritious salamander. They fight again, and Silvia wakes up to see them going at it pretty hard. When the time comes to fight, Sirius tries his best to get revenge on Moroha, but the Luna unit is still too busted up. Bent on vengeance, Sirius almost steps on Silvia, but Apollo warns him at the last minute. The revamped Cherubim can now split in two a la Evangelion, so Sirius and Apollo have to put their differences aside and work together. They reform into Solar Aquarion, and everyone apologizes and they do a goofy Mugen Cross to defeat the Cherubim Soldier.

This was an OK episode, but the monster of the week thing needs to stop. The retarded teamwork at the end wasn’t that convincing, and they were just lucky that Moroha didn’t whip out his Sharingan and cut through them with the Lightning Edge. However, the Shadow Angels were not without fault, as I doubt that Lensi and Moroha could have brown-nosed each other any more than they did. There was a great deal of yaoi-tension between Sirius and Apollo, and once more we were treated to an all-male gattai. I thought for sure that the monster of the week was playing mental games again, but then it turned out that Apollo and Sirius have that whole love-hate thing going on, and so they have to keep fighting for an excuse to be grabbing each other all the time.

I thought it was really cool that Vector Luna had sustained battle damage throughout the entire episode. However, I was very disappointed in Silvia’s hair, which looked absolutely horrible this time. Did she just wake up? What happened to her bangs? Too bad she didn’t get a chance to eat those salamanders, because I hear those things are good for your hair.
