Samurai Champloo 23

As the group is captured for trying to eat and run, an ecentric baseball fanatic bails them out in exchange for their agreement to play in a baseball game. Not only is Kagemarou a baseball lover, he’s also a ninja, and he has organized a game with some American sailors. The sailors are here to forcefully open Japan up to trade, and everything’s on the line in this game. Unfortunately, Kagemarou’s team is comprised of the Champloo gang, Momo-chan, an old guy who dies before even making it to the plate, and a random dog. The play quickly turns dirty, and before long, Mugen is the only one left. Fortunately, he busts out his Charlie-Sheen, Major-Leagues pitching, and knocks out every single American player. The game ends after one inning, and the Japanese win. This sends the Americans home with a fear of Japan, until Perry arrives in 1853.

As pointless as the last episode, at least this one was amusing. It was pretty ingenious to have a dog bat, and I couldn’t believe it when they purposely hit the dog and scared away X-Box squirrel, Momo-chan. It was also great when the American players started yelling “Balk!!!” when Mugen did his breakdance pitching. This episode served up plenty of engrish, such as when the Japanese cop tried to sneak on board the ship and identified himself as “Wow”.
