Like some kind of wacky Sousei no Naruto crossover, episode 7 focuses on the power of jealousy. Sirius is starting to feel some heavy angst, and he finds himself chanting poetry and dropping roses during the fight against a random lizardy mythological beast. Wonder Twins, Kurt and Chloe Klick, are weirded out by this and “voice” their displeasure through their telepathic quivering sideburns. Afterwards, we see that Fudo has everyone looking up information on Power Stones and Silvia finds a beautiful book about jewels called Lithica, written by Onomakritos of Greece. Lithica is commonly called the Hymns of Orpheus and explains the immortality of the soul that keeps changing bodies; moreover, the soul is compared to a jewel within the body. Sirius gets his hands on this book and wonders about the true reincarnation of the Solar Wing. Too bad at that moment his bracer glows and he sees an image of Apollo with wings.
Sensing Sirius’ angst, Toma and Otoha find the flower he tossed on the lizard corpse. Otaha comments that one of the wingless understands the beauty of destruction, but Toma is determined to show Sirius true beauty. Sirius’ jealousy and secret shame over not being the Solar Wing begins to get him in trouble with Apollo and it looks like the happy days of unity in Team 7 are over. Silvia begins having memories of her past life and being unable to help Apollonius in his shounen-ai tinged fight with Toma, and she despairs that she can’t get close to either of them. Afterwards, the flashback shows Serian coming to and finding the battlefield empty, but for a single crystal with some strange orange stuff in it. She promises to fulfill Appolonius’ prayer and give him the jewel.
With that out of the way, it’s time to get it on. Somehow, Jean-Jerome decides that there is a 67% chance the Shadow Angels will attack Alabama next (LOL… wtf?!), but Sirius points out that 1) the Shadow Angels are drawing out a beautiful Pentagon, and 2) the Shadow Angels hate Elvis. With this in mind, Sirius predicts Memphis will be the next target, and he’s correct. The enemy this time is geometry, or rather a funky decahedron that uses bright light for psychological attacks. Silvia, Apollo, and Sirius begin to see ugly visions of jealousy and sadness, and before long their ugly feelings consume them. It seems this enemy feeds off the negative energy, and the three pilots are caught in the vision. Thankfully, Reika remembers the last episode, and shoots a message to Sirius with her imagination. Sirius snaps out of it and manages to utilize this jealous energy to spin around really fast and bust out his Zerotupier Gladius, (”Sword Consumed by Jealousy”). They win and the mythical beast turns into a stone rose. Meanwhile, Toma is satisfied that he was “able to plant a small seed”, and that Sirius will soon be seeing him to receive the level 2 curse seal.
So Rena suffers from low blood pressure? David, care to shed any light on why this might be? This episode was a great return to the nonsensical sentai campiness that we had grown to love, and Sirius stealing angsty scenes from Naruto really topped it off. It was nice to see Reika do something useful for a change, although I still think the best plan would be to stash her at Shadow Angel HQ so that her bad luck will rub off on them. Other great moments included the Wonder Twin sideburns maneuver, and of course Tsugumi utilizing the polarized Bindu filters, which ironically are the industrial strength version of the Solariix. Haha Ender, take that!
