We open up showing a strange giant flower/garden, with harvested humans sorta stuck in the stem. The revived bishie from last time, Toma, asks four-eyes (Otoha) about what’s been going on during his hibernation, and she tells him that the wingless ones have messed up their world. It seems that the Solar Wing betrayed them in the past… Speaking of those rotten wingless ones, back at Deava HQ, Sirius tells Silvia about how his first union was beautiful like 10,000 white roses (with Reika and Glenn), but that the union with Apollo was just savage violence. Across the hall, Apollo toys with that wimpy director guy (Jean-Jerome Jorge) until Fudo Gen steps in and just kicks the stupid out of Apollo. Fudo says that Apollo has a beast of darkness in his heart, and so they toss him in jail.
To verify this accusation, blind-loli-goth-wheelchair-vampire girl (Rena) brings Apollo a sandwich and talks to him. Even though her eyes don’t work, she can see with the “eyes of her heart”. While they talk things over, Pierre and Sirius come to blows and it’s Pierre’s fiery legs versus Sirius’ windy blown kisses. Before things get too crazy, Reika stops them a la Kakashi, and an Angel conveniently attacks right then. Reika is all ready to get sentai, but suddenly she has a flashback of the creepy soul-beam thing, and the union fails. At the same time, Apollo hears a horrible noise and slumps on Rena’s lap, so naturally she bites his neck (yummy). Somehow this revives him, but now he’s acting like Apollonius.
Of course Apollo(nius) wants to check into the game, and when Pierre tries to stop him, Apollo(nius) blasts him like Cyclops with ruby concussive eye beams. There’s also a bit of weirdness, as Apollo(nius) taunts Silvia, calling her “Serian” and saying she’s lost her pride as a warrior. Interestingly enough, Silvia retorts after a temporary personality swap, and it’s like we’re watching Sousei no Mahoraba. Reika is transferred out, and Apollo(nius) forces Silvia and Sirius to unite to form Solar Aquarion. Apollo(nius) then proceeds to simply punch in the Cherubim Soldier’s head, but this time Toma asks Otoha to play the spirit transfer song.
When she reluctantly agrees, Toma revives and unites with the Fallen Angel and begins smacking around the Solar Aquarion. Toma-Cherubim is really fast and powerful, and Apollo(nius) criticizes Sirius and Silvia, lamenting that their union is not a real one. Toma is surprised that Apollonius has gotten so weak, and after some devastating attacks, darkness begins to envelop the Solar Aquarion. Everything gets cold and the darkness begins to take over everything. As Apollo(nius) loses consciousness, Toma talks about their “precious light”, the one that destroyed the world and betrayed them. However, when Toma remarks that Apollonius was the only man he ever loved, it gets to be too much for Apollo(nius) to take, and suddenly a brilliant light blasts apart the darkness and the Angel, knocking Toma back into his physical body. Clearly the fear of yaoi and fangirls was overwhelming for Apollo(nius), and in his anguish he even busts the Solar Aquarion up into its Vector units.
Yet again, Sousei Aquarion delights and tickles the fancy. We get more servings of Christian mythology, and I found myself wondering if the light that Toma spoke of was supposed to be God (reminds me of Evangelion slightly). The high points of the episode were when Apollo dislocated his shoulders effortlessly, and when they brought in even more orgasmic stock footage. I swear that if nothing else, Sousei Aquarion has the funniest stock footage of any show I’ve ever seen. Rena’s heart-eye was pretty good, too. My main questions after this episode are: Why do they refer to Lihua as “Reika”, and Why don’t they just give Rena some neko-mimi and just be done with it? Maybe some answers will eventually surface on the Official Sousei Aquarion Blog, I guess we’ll just have to keep wondering. I also want to see the following exchange take place:
Sirius: So you’re saying that you’re the reincarnation of Apollonius?
Apollo: Sure looks like it.
Sirius: Are you serious?!
Apollo: No, that’s you.

Felt I should leave you with Mahou’s explanation as to choosing Reika over Lihua.
That is what I suspected, although I still find it strange. Thanks for the link!
