Bleach 11-12

When I first saw Ishida Ametatsu appear in this episodes, I thought to myself “man, this guy looks just like an older Uchiha Sasuke”. Needless to say, once I heard Amatatsu start to talk, I was laughing sooo hard since the voice of Uchiha Sasuke managed to find his way into the vocal chords of Amatasu :D Soooo perfect!!! Anyways, Ametatsu is the numba wan student in Ichigo’s school (sound familiar? :P) who’s very reserved, keeps things to himself, and is seemingly good at almost everything he does (hmm…wonder where they got this idea from? :P). He also happens to be from a dying Quincy clan that killed off Hollows rather routinely. When confronted by Ichigo, Ametatsu shows off his Legolas shooting powers by detecting a Hollow off in a distance and blowing it away with his flashy bowing skillz. Ametatsu also tells Ichigo about his dislike towards Death Gods, although he doesn’t really say why. But this disdain for Death God drives Ichigo to learn more about Ametatsu, and this results in the the two of them to get into a wager of who can kill the most Hollows. Ametatsu then breaks this bottlecap like object which is like catnip for Hollows, and Hollows being to run wild. During this time, we also get to see the growth of Chad as he manages to save Karin from the grasps of a Hollow.

The 12th episode also seems to try and bring out more characters that have “ghost-vision”, but do not quite have the super-powahs of Ichigo. But I’m glad to see that the series seems to have picked up the pace a bit. However, the odds looked stacked against Ichigo to rid more Hollows since Ametatsu seems to one-shot kill everything.

meep…I believe it’s Ishida Uryuu, not Ametatsu. They both mean “rain dragon”, though. :P

*nods* the ‘Ametatsu’ pronounciation is actually a joke. When read separately, the two kanjis that make up the word ‘Uryuu’ can be read as Ame (rain) and Tatsu (dragon). That’s why Ichigo read it as ‘Ametatsu’. But in this case, the correct pronounciation is ‘Uryuu’. It’s a funny mistake that people often make when reading Kanji used in people’s name.

Ishida and Sasuke have the same seiyuu, Sugiyama Noriaki.

*falls over* It was pretty obvious. XD

Hmm, on the note that the odds seem stacked against Ichigo, I actually think that they’re pretty even — although Uryuu has a one-hit kill, I doubt he could fare well in close combat, especially in the situation that Ichigo faced in this episode (i.e. Ichigo was blindsided by 3 monsters in a group)

Additionally, since Uryuu is limited to aerial / floating Hollows (since the town buildings block his ability to snipe), Ichigo has a virtual monopoly over all slithering, scuttling, and other land-based Hollows, which seem to predominate the series :)

Heh that’s true. But give a Hollow on the ground in plain view, I still think Uryuu will kill it faster :P
