I swear, this series is schizophrenic. The atmosphere varies wildly, featuring SD-humor in one scene and bishounen angst in the next, but it’s just so…puuurdy! I can’t help but watch
Due to the destruction of the dorms (along with most of the town), Miya has invited Himeko to live at her resplendent mansion (which, as noted by Momotato, looks like it came right out of Hanaukyo Maid-Tai), and they share some “bonding time” . The entire first half of the episode centers around the typical melodramtic high school setting, where most of the female population is jealous of the attention that Himeko is getting from Miya and Souma. Meanwhile, back at the mansion, the head maid is also jealous, which leads to a few amusing scenes. And of course, Miya is jealous of Souma’s ability to protect Himeko, and his seemingly undying devotion. Come on Miya, the more the merrier!
The second half features the shounen plot shift, as the “lolicon trash” catgirl decides to wreak havoc with her dorky looking mech, “Meow-Meow”, which resembles a poorly designed beach ball. Naturally, Souma saves the day once again, and Miya is left feeling uselesss (again).
For some odd reason, I’m actually enjoying this series, which seems to be trying to cover every single freakin genre out there. I’ll bet at some point there’s going to be some ninjas and kage bunshin no justsu involved. And wild-west gunslingers. With talking animal sidekicks. And everything will be resolved when the characters decide to put aside their differences and form an alternative rock band. Many character vocal albums will soon follow.
On the plus side, the opening and ending songs (which have that distinct I’ve/Kotoko sound) are growing on me, even though they sound like every other I’ve/Kotoko song.
Kannaduki no Miko 3
