The monstrous bug apparently has a taste for annoying wussy little brothers that only know how to say “Onee-chan,” and Mai’s powers conveniently activate to allow her to wisk Takumi out of the monster’s way. While Nagi spouts some rubbish, Natsuki and Mikoto come to Mai’s aid. Natsuki has Duran distract the bug with some chromed out stock footage, while Mikoto slices the bug in half. Too bad the pieces regenerate and now there are two dragon-like bug things after Takumi. Mai takes this opportunity to summon her CHILD (guardian), Kagutsuchi, by yanking out the binding sword. Kagutsuchi takes out the bug and a big chunk of the mountain with a Dragon Slave spell.
Apparently these crazy monsters are known as ORPHANs, and are from another dimension. Kazahana Mashiro, who is on the Fuuka Gakuen Board of Directors, gave Mai a scholarship so she could help fight the little beastlings. Mai ponders the choice, and Mikoto tells of how she is searching for Ani-ue (big brother) in the land of Fuuka (whatever that means). It’s also revealed that Nagi is an annoying twit who stole his hairdo from DBZ, but most viewers already knew that.
Sometimes I almost want to drop this series because of how much I hate Nagi. I can deal with absurd and unoriginal plot elements, but something about that white-haired bastard whips me into a rage. Other than the blasé heartthrob senpai (who I am sure is secretly an evil bastard), the other male characters in this series seem to be pretty annoying overall. I was also disappointed with Mai’s powers. She gets some gaudy bracelets that look really dumb when they spin fast, and she has a big white dragon with a knife through its mouth that speaks in whale-song? Natsuki would never agree to something that tacky! Still, I thought that this episode was decent, because it got the story moving and explained a few of the mysteries introduced in the first episode. More stock footage, please!

hehehee, apparent you have something against Takumi. He is just not well, that is all.
and I agree with you that the bracelets design is SO dumb. Looks like they are made of plastic or something of that sort. And yeah, I just detest Nagi so much that the soon he dies the better. Hideous is one thing, pretending to be cool is another factor.
I think it’s Takumi’s deep manly voice that bothers me! He’s so frail. I am desperately hoping that Kagutsuchi eats Nagi.
