Now that FMA has been retired, it’s time for a new series! Kabitzin suggested I take a look at Bleach since it has some Shaman King-like resemblance, and from the surface, he is right. The story follows a teenager named Kurosaki Ichigo, who seems to closely resemble Sawamura Seiji from Midori no Hibi in both looks, attitude, and fighting spirit. Ichigo also has a strange power; the capability to see ghosts and physically interact with them, which seems very cool but the power seems to be bothersome to him, and his senses of the ghost seem to be getting stronger every day. He lives with his father, who has the maturity of a child and always reverts to a picture of his mother whenever things don’t go his way, and two sisters, Karin and Yuzu. Both Karin and Yuzu also seem to have ghost sensing powers, but strangely enough, the father doesn’t.
Meanwhile, in Karakura City where Ichigo lives in, there seems to be some strange and unexplained destruction going through the city. While Ichigo was out for a walk, he discovers some huge ghosts with clown-like faces causing the destruction. But out of no where, a samurai-like figure appears out of thin air, slashes the evil ghost down, and disappears. Later that night, Ichigo was recollecting about that event when the samurai appears once again. However, the two get into a squabble as the samurai, named Kuchiki Rukia, explained that shes a Soul Reaper responsible for sending good souls, or “Pluses”, up to the “Soul Society” or vanquishing bad souls, called “Hollows”. During their argument, a Hollow attacks Ichigo’s sisters, prompting him and Rukia to take immediate action. Rukia discovers that Ichigo has a lot of “spirit” as he’s able to break one of her Kidoh binding spells. I’ll wait and let this series develop before making any judgments, but so far, it’s not too bad of an opener to introduce the characters of the series.
