Bakuretsu Tenshi 14

At last, it’s finally time to learn how some of our cast met. In this flashback, Meg is still a young hoodlum with undyed hair. One of her posse of orphans finds a conked out Jo and decides that Jo must be an angel. A crazy burst angel. Unfortunately, one of Jo’s livals is after her; it seems that this chase has been going on for some time. Naturally, the lival mutates into something out of an Alien movie and Jo blows its brains out and then surfs through the air on its corpse. From that moment on, Meg and Jo are best friends.

After watching tons of Samurai 7 and Champloo, then following that up with a bunch of Otogizoushi, my brain needed a break. And quite frankly, BakuTen was just what the doctor ordered. The backstory about Jo’s shady past implies that Jo is not quite human, and may even have a mutant brain! Or maybe not. I’m not really sure, but it will probably be revealed in time. I hope that Amy and Sei’s first meeting was as exciting as this one! Jo with long hair was kinda goofy, and Meg’s black hair makes her eyes seem even more freakishly blue.

Have you ever noticed that the plot lines in filler episodes are usually utterly outrageous and nonsensical? And that the main characters are often put in bizarre and senseless situations? I think if you took a whole season of filler episodes and got some better artists to animate it, you’d end up with Bakuretsu Tenshi.

I just marathoned 14~19 today. 14 was great, as was 15.

I prefer Jo with long hair and Meg with black hair.

Finally a very good episode again. Agreed, Jo looks even better in this one with her long hair and the different cloth. There weren’t no uber mega titties either. If you prefer the latter, you’ll love episode 15 which is a silly filler IMHO. (I see, #15 is the “bikini filler episode”.) Hopefully, there will be more episodes about the younger Jo and Meg because I’m a little tired of those lousy and pointless mecha duels. Every episode without a
pathetic “Jango” is a good one.

Ohohoho! In retrospect, every BakuTen episode with battling livals are excellent :)
