Samurai 7 09

The rest of the Nobuseri are waiting to ambush our band of samurai as they exit the tunnels of the Shikimoribito. As expected, Honoka tipped off the Nobuseri because they are holding her sister hostage. Surprisingly enough, the Nobuseri are constructed of some kind of very soft metal; perhaps their armor is made from an aluminum-cesium alloy? The samurai have little trouble dealing with the Nobuseri, and Kyuuzou’s ugly coworker escapes back to report the defeat (and Kyuuzou’s treachery) to Sobei. Kyuuzou makes his position clear later by killing the fugly coworker and joining the samurai; too bad he says he’s just tagging along so he can kill Kanbei. Things take on a sense of desperation as the samurai learn that Sobei (the head of the Nobuseri) knows almost everything about them and their mission to save Kanna village. Oh yeah, Katsushiro saves Kikuchiyo, but it’s not like either of them were really missed in the fight.

Looking back, the battleship slicing in episode 1 doesn’t seem as unrealistic now. From what I’ve seen, the steel butter knife in my kitchen could probably cut through these Nobuseri like… a knife through butter… It was interesting that there are people inside of the FF units. Is there a little person inside of Kikuchiyo? The action was very good this time as we get to see the various samurai in action. It’s clear that they are the cream of the crop, and may be able to put up a very good fight against the Nobuseri forces. Complicating the matter, however, is the weak resolve of the farmers. Aside from the three with the samurai, and the elder, the farmers are not admirable people. They are cowardly and distrustful, and the Nobuseri are quick to use this against them. It will be interesting to see how the samurai deal with risking their lives for farmers that dislike them almost as much as the Nobuseri.

Speaking of the first episode, watch it again to see Shichiroji and Kanbei when they were teammates originally. Very good stuff.

I thought that sequence from the first episode was going to be a scene when they launch their final attack against the No-buseri. Hmmm…I have to watch the pilot again.

Never mind. I watched the episode again and they were definitely younger then. Pretty neat.
