Samurai 7 07

We finally get to meet the final of the seven samurai, Shichiroji; ironically he is Kanbei’s old right hand man. In one of the battles during the war, Shichiroji had his left arm seriously injured. I guess something fell on him and knocked him out, and when he awoke, he found that he had been in some life pod that was fished out of the water. In the five years since, he has come to love the woman who saved him, but in the end being a samurai is his true calling. Poor Yukino knows that he is probably doomed (having already seen The Seven Samurai), and yet can do nothing but aid him in his flight from the healing village. To keep things from getting too moody, Kikuchiyo shows up with several samurai hunters in tow, and the group reunites and escapes via an underground river. An underground river infested with robotic ninjas that hang from the stalactites (not stalagmites) like bats that is!

I can just tell that Shichiroji’s story will leave me all moody and depressed; if they start showing flashbacks I’ll probably end up bawling. Still, his relationship with Yukino is a beautiful thing and something to be jealous of. I really love how well this series has been working, and I applaud Gonzo for basically not mucking things up. Kikuchiyo was pretty funny as he yelled at the hunters to come within range of his windmill move. However, I don’t understand why Kirara doesn’t smack Katsushiro upside the head for getting all googly over Yukino. Maybe she really doesn’t think of him that way. Anyway, I was happy to see that the OP animation got much cooler and ditched the lame scenes from the first few episodes. Perhaps the director didn’t want to spoil us too much right away.

Ha, I love it how all characters in shonen call out the names of their ultimate moves when they execute them (i.e. Naruto’s Rasengen, Luffy’s Rubber Pistol).

Still, even with all this background, I don’t think I’ve seen something as lame as Shichiroji’s “Secret Move: Tatami Flip!” (hee hee hee) :)

Actually, if you’ve seen the original movie, you’d have an understanding on which Samurai survived. So the aftermath should be interesting.

I was actually hoping Kirara hit on Kanbei instead…. yeah it’s wrong but hey, it makes a juicy side-plot :)

Did anyone else notice how odd the animation looked in the middle of this episode? I’m sort of wondering if they did it deliberately.

I was disappointed that the animation in the episode introducing Shichiroji was so sketchy! In an odd way, the surreal way the characters floated around suited his carefree attitude and the healing house atmosphere, but it was still a shame and disappointment after the detailed animation of the previous episodes.

I heard Gonzo only had 2 animators that day as opposed to the normal 21. But I could be wrong.

    ’spoiler and going off-topic warning’

If Stripey has already seen all of Samurai 7, Kirara actually DOES have the hots for Kanbei! I’ve read other forums where that pairing was frowned upon, but really, I dare ANY full-blooded woman NOT to have a crush on the guy!! He’s got a full head of GORGEOUS hair, looks DELICIOUS in a hakama, looks like he’d look good without anything on ;p, as wise as the day is long and as wily as a fox…

    Okay. Rant over. Thank you.

*SPOILER, KINDA, I THINK, NOT SURE*

i watch the last episode over and over and i still dont get it completly.

*Where the heck did the 5th samurai go, the young one?
*where did kambei and his buddy leave to?
*who did kirara end up wit?
*and if it was the 5th samurai, did she do it out of pity because she had made *him kill?

even tho i did not get it 100% for sum reason i get the impresion that it was sumwat of a sad endin, mayb i felt that way because the way i understood it kirara didnt end up wit the the 5th samurai nor his master kambei. The way i see it they all went their own way. and to make it worse so many died, even Kouzu (or sumthing, the coolest one wit the double sword).

Sry bout not using their name, most of em start wit a K so i get Confused.

if anyone has answers to my question plz, plz send me an email at “guilty_x3s@hotmail.com” THNX in advance…

and if u have time feel free to recomend any other cool anime, im really into em.
