The team tries their luck at gambling, and come into a lot of money thanks to Momo’s last minute save. Unfortunately, the money is promptly stolen by a pickpocket, Shinsuke, who is trying to earn enough money to buy medicine for his sick mom. Things get even worse when he steals a pack of opium (sorta by accident) from a bunch of yakuza, and has to run from the law with Fuu as his hostage.
Not too much exciting stuff happened in this episode, although we learn a few more snippets of information about Fuu’s past. It seems her dad left a long time ago, and her mom died last year. It’s been established that Fuu is a really caring person who sees the good in others, so if Samurai Champloo could kindly move the plot along, or at least give us info about Mugen and Jin, I’d really like that.

Right — I’m rather disappointed at the lack of plot dev. so far, but my fingers are crossed . . . It’s a shame that there aren’t any mecha to redeem this title’s foibles (^_^)
I think we’re both just in withdrawal after BakuTen. If only I could get my hands on some mutant robo-brains….
Did anyone notice the similarities between this episode, and Bebop’s Waltz for Venus? Is Watanabe reduced to recycling plotlines, or was this all just to tell us a little more about Fuu?
