Uchuu no Stellvia 23

Things get even more emotional as the evacuation date draws near. While people on the various planets riot, Shima’s friends hatch a plan to stay aboard Stellvia and support Shima. Shima is still extremely depressed (again) about lagging behind Kouta, and when she sees him meeting with Ayaka (Shima, this just in: Ayaka likes women!) she decides that she can’t balance both work and love at the same time. I wouldn’t say she dumps him, but they both decide to just focus on the mission for right now. That’s a good thing, because Shima’s got her work cut out for her. After seeing her amazing bust-a-move skillz, Jinrae puts Shima in her own mecha: a green version of Infinity named Halcyon. It’s got a different head, and a green coat of paint, and rumor has it that it can be retro-fitted with a non-DLS system. It’s the perfect gift for the programmer that has everything. Woot!

I was disappointed that Colonel Saunders still couldn’t beat alien advisor dude in chess. Damnit, so those evil space cicadas are good at board games in addition to bust-a-move?! Aside from that, this episode was very good, and it had the perfect mix of drama, tension, and hope. I was a little startled by Shima’s mom explaining the birds and the bees to her via TV broadcast, but I guess that was a nice emotional scene as well… My favorite part of this episode was when Shima tells them to take the awesome new mech they have, and rip out the cutting edge DLS information management system in order to install the crappy Bianca information management system. Are drivers even still available for that???
