BakuTen makes up for the crappy episode 10 by bouncing back with the most totally awesomest episode so far! Check this out: Jo is assigned to protect the actor who plays Masked Rider, because the super fake Sentai-esque show (DDD aka Dream Danger Dynamite) generates a lot of income for Bai Lan. There is some strange terrorist group that caused a train wreck, and is now seeking to hijack the show. They cause the actor playing Ultra Beast to turn into a giant mutant roach (now this is the BakuTen I’ve come to know and love!), and Uber-Mutant-Roach beats up the hapless Masked Rider. Jo steps in to squash this newest threat, but is stopped mid-battle by a cop dressed in a seifuku. Her name is Katsu Takane, and did I mention she has a motorcycle, a sword with a serrated edge, an Evel Knievel-like cape, and spiky red handcuffs?! Catfight!
This episode is Gonzo through and through. The cheesy Masked Rider show is so great, and the otaku fans in the seats have such humorous commentary. There’s plenty of cool Jo action, and the other main characters play virtually no part. Kyohei shows up and gets chased away from a Parfait shop in Osaka, but that’s about it (was it a front or something? Octopi parfait?). About the only thing missing was Jango. Additionally, the new cop girl was pretty cool too, and I’m really looking forward to the next episode. Hawk of the West vs. Angel of the East indeed!
It seems that Jo has finally made the connection that I pointed out back in Episode 6. I guess there is some terrorist conspiracy out there that uses mutant/robo brains to do evil stuff? I’m not sure, but I’m sure Gonzo will fill us in! After all, this is a studio that is praised worldwide for its deep storytelling .

Takane’s awesome. She’d better stick around for a while. It looks like the show is about to really get going.
Ho ho ho! I can’t believe that the mutant brain thing was actually *intentional*! I swear, if Sei becomes an evil mastermind coordinating all of the terrorist incidents in order to get more brains, I’m going to flip
And yes, this is the “most totally awesomest” episode so far (^_^)
Yeah, I’d hafta say this was the best episode so far, too
It’s about time..
And since they’re in Osaka now I get to practice my Osaka-ben, too
I new I stayed up late for a reason, episode 12!
Oh, and I rewatched this one, and I think the beginning set a record for the most uses of “Ahou” in 5 minutes.
I noticed that too!!!! Crazy Osaka people!
Episode 12 was great.
Am I the only one who thinks that this series was good until episode 8 and now it just gets worse and worse? I hardly recognize any plot and the episodes are just boring. And WTF happened to Sei’s breasts? If they get any bigger she’ll have to crawl.
The cup sizes get even crazier later on! I think you just have to flow with the absurdity to love BakuTen. If you’re complaining about Sei now, wait till you get to the random bikini filler episode!
And by “bikini filler episode”, I mean a filler episode that features bikinis, and not an episode about filling bikinis. Gokigenyou!
