Samurai Champloo 03

Tired of being hungry, dirty, and indebted to Fuu, Mugen and Jin make a break for it at a fork in the road. Poor Fuu is left in their dust, with only a flying squirrel to keep her company. Coincidentally, Mugen and Jin end up in the same town working for different Yakuza gangs. Meanwhile, Fuu gets captured while she is searching for Mugen and Jin, and her captors force her into a brothel in order to pay for an excessively expensive pot she broke (even though that fugly lady warned Fuu about this scam!). Everyone meets again as Jin and Mugen battle it out, and Fuu yells at them behind wooden bars.

This episode was ok, with a few short, but well choreographed fights. The crabs were very entertaining as well, especially the one that Mugen ate. I’m very interested in seeing how this will all play out. Will Momo-chan save the day? Will Fuu fix her eyebrows? Regardless, I like the chemistry between the threesome. There’s no fake buddy-buddy stuff, and no one hesitates to ditch Fuu in a second, honor or no honor (no honor). And they aren’t good at everything; for instance, Jin is a terrible woman, and an even worse musician. I approve.

BTW, is “yojimbo” the same as a “hired bodyguard”? If so, that would make so much sense!

Ha, Jin’s music skills are awesome! I can’t believe he actually *attempted* to play the instrument!

But I guess violin strings are easy to break, even in the feudal era (^_^)

I initially thought that it was going to be one of those “I betcha didn’t know I’m an expert musician on the side” moments, but I busted a gut when I found out otherwise :)
