Wowowowow. I know this is Gonzo stuff, but someone forgot to write in the stupidity. From what I have seen so far, this is not just pretty like usual Gonzo material; the art so far is just absolutely gorgeous. I know it’s heretical, but the only word I could think of to describe it was Ghibli. I felt like I was watching Mononoke-Hime or something with the way everything blended together so perfectly (even the 3D parts). Anyway, before I go on with my raving, I have absolutely no knowledge of the material that this series is based on, although I am assuming that the original did not include giant robots and mechanized samurai warriors.
A few years back, some evil robots took over the Earth because they wanted our rice (and our women, too). Although we had samurai who could slice entire spaceships in half with their katana (ummm….), we still lost. Now farmers are forced to give up their harvests to these robots or die. One village in particular has decided to try to fight against the robots by hiring a samurai. They send their dowsing priestess Mikumari Kirara, country bumpkin Rikichi, and Kirara’s little sister Komachi to search in the city for a samurai powerful and hungry enough to help them. Two seem promising: there is a young bishie fellow who helps them recover their stolen rice (Okamoto Katsushiro), and there is a big dumb brute of a mechanical samurai who chops everything in his path (Kikuchiyo). The dowsing crystal, however, points them to a third warrior: the battleship splitter from before (Shimada Kanbei)! He’s playing hard to get now, but once he finds out that he will be paid in rice, mochi, and daifuku I’m confident he’ll sign right up.
I wasn’t anticipating this to be that great, but after I watched the first episode, I very badly want more. I don’t normally associate Gonzo with great storytelling, but I believe that this story was lifted from some famous writings, so there is still hope. The art and the music are fantastic, and I especially love the flow of the preview sections. If this is done right, I think that we could have a killer love/action/epic story that will be among the season’s best. Worst comes to worst we will have…. Bakuretsu Tenshi with samurai boys.

You’ll notice that this coincided with the end of Chrno. I think Aion’s evil work has indeed flipped Heaven and Earth, and soon we will see Studio Ghibli put out some utter trash with hot looking 3D mecha.
I have no idea what’s up with all the samurai shows lately, but I like it =).
I was scared off by the usage of mecha in this anime and didn’t even finish watching episode 1. *gulps* I seriously need to rid myself of the “original” samurai-7 mindset and get into the mood for a more trendier kind of samurai anime like Champloo.
The preview didn’t grab my interest, and being a GONZO show, I wrote it off initially. But from your write-up, it seems awfully interesting. The art looks nice as well.

Granted, the art is good but since I have seen seven samurai the movie and LOVED it meaning I can’t get the burned images of pure kurosawa greatness out of my mind, I think this series is a slap in his face-storywise I mean wow talk about wrecking an awesome piece of storytelling. . .*sigh* here’s a good tip: if you have seen the original material this is based off of, DO NOT watch this anime. I’m not watching anymore.
Hi, i belive that this redo is great. I like that original movies (like Das Boot or The longest Day” have redo like this.. Huge Mecha o submarines firing lassers and missiles… A lot of fun !!
Just think..Star Wars was a remake of Kurosawa’s Hidden Fortress..Gonzo probably thought..if Lucas could do it..so could we..
Well, I haven’t seen Seven Samurai, but as far as I’ve seen of Samurai 7, I think it’s a pretty awesome show. It may not be as decent as the original, but as a anime it rocks.

I have seen and I own the original Seven Samurai. I haven’t seen Samurai 7, but I plan on it. I loved the original, and I love anime…and I was thinking of a way to redo Seven Samurai…not like Magnificent Seven or anything, but something abit more modern, maybe futuristic…but on a smaller scale…or larger scale…I dunno…just really loved the movie. This is a must see for me, now.

In the final episode… that quite intriguing, they didn’t show what happends between kiara and kambei if kiara has a chance to express her feelings to kambei. Well, I’m a big fan of Kambei because he has a strong personality among the rest of the character and he’s cute.
I hope that there’s a sequel to the series.

It’s relly good and to tell you the truth, I’ve never seen an anime with a really good story and a set of “UNIQUE” cast, Until Samurai7 arrived on our channel! Wow…Kyuzo is so damn handsome! He rocks! They all rock! The anime rocks! Although I’m kinda sad about episode 25…

I was rather excited when I realized it was based on Akira Kurosawa’s original “Seven Samurai”. The first episode really gave me doubts about the rest of the series, b/c of the fact it was ridiculous (in a bad way, Seriously, how does a man cut a massive battleship in two?). I found the fact that the futuristic world wasn’t really intergrated very well (the farmers were clearly still from the 17th century). It seems the only reason they placed this remake in the future is so that they could kill robots and have a PG rating rather than getting graphic (that and possibly to try and distance it more from the original). It’s funny to see all the parts they kept from the original (and a lot of it is; names for starters), but this also makes the new parts more enjoyable. I wonder if as many people will die as in the original? (there’s either 2 or 3 survivors in the original, Kambie and Katsushiro and possibly one other that i have forgotten). Still, all in all, its very good once you get passed the first episode.

Who’d ever thought GONZO would come out with something like this?
Samurai 7 was (is, I think) the most expensive anime series created at the time, boasting a whopping $100,000 per episode–and it shows! I have seen the original Kurosawa film (and loved it–Kurosawa is a genius nono, a film god, even) and I was also a bit squeamish about all those robots zooming around the screen. But watching through the series, I began to appreciate the twists that they have incorporated in the story. You can just see how helpless those villagers were under the hands of the Nobuseri. Roving bandits? Try ruthless mechs with souls! The Seven having defeated them brings more glory, in my opinion.
The character designs were great. I love Kanbei-sama! I love Heihachi-san! Who in here does not like Kyuzo-sama?!?! I like all of them except for Katsushirou–for very obvious reasons.
I would’ve appreciated it more if Kyuzo-sama had been killed by enemy fire, but friendly fire, for heaven’s sake, has that pipsqueak no brains?! Okay, okay, he was trying to save Kanbei and he probably zoned in or zoned out or something pathetic like that, but… Sigh. But you have to admit, Kyuzo dying was so damn GORGEOUS. >:D Okay, enough blushing fangirl ranting.
All in all, I’d say this series is a few cuts above the rest. Even for die-hard Kurosawa fans, I’d even go so far as to recommend watching it. Sure, sure, you’ll probably cry “SACRILEGE!!!” for the first few minutes, but if you get past all the tin cans, you might find out that it’s something you would enjoy.
Samurai 7 is awesome!!! Loved almost evrything about it..apart frm the mechas. and yes…kyuzo is definetly hot.

Today i saw the 25th episode of Samurai 7, where a GALACTIC HORROR happens.
Yes, and it’s already spoken there - Kyuzo’s death.
I’m VERY, VERY shocked.
How dare the writter (or who else!) doing such a hediond thingggggggg?!?! It’s the second time that something like that passes with me: an excellent character’s murder.
Yes, Kyuzo was, perdon, IS fantastic, has a great personality and style, and is very elegant and handsome too…;D But the most amazing thing on him is his attitud in combat. No doubt! What a figthing style, speed, precision and elegance!! I really love seing him in action. (Kyuzo, Jin, Mugen (Samurai Champloo) are the best swordsmen on figthing… especially the first one.)
I just stayed in front of the screen, my mouth opened, strong beats…I couldn’t believe…So fast, so unexpected… And worse: just after a first death advertisement, i stayed so happy when i realised he was still alive, and, in the next instant… Oh my…
So, i just wonder: WHY KYUZO?! Why not another one?! Hem?!
The little, annoying, hot headed and blue haired boy did the “service”. It wasn´t intentional; anyway, that reforces the impulsive moron that katsushiro is (minuscule; i’m angry with him).
Enough of dramas.
About the other characters, the group of the seven is interesting in general, i also like very much Shichiroji and Heiachi. Kirara is also a good character, i apreciated her love for Kambei. In the beginning of the series, i liked also katsu (he’s a liiiittle cute), but fastly i got fed up with him… Ok, he liked Kyuzo too, he should be even worse than i am, (i hope, at least)… Komachi is another character i like. Even Ukyo has his interesting part, his stratagemes and robot-samurai’s hate are very funny…And what about the way he lifts the leg, while sitting down, in his amanushi’s fase?! Eh, eh…
Well, well, Samurai 7 is a god anime, yes.
I only disaprove 2 points: the obcession with the rice (due to film’s story line, i know, but…) and the nobuseris’ animation, it resulted too artificial and disajusted with the restant scenary in many times, i think.
Oh, what a shame it doesn’t exists the manga, OVA’s and movies of Samurai 7.

Samurai 7 is freaking AWSOME! Can’t get enough. It takes about 3 months for a dvd to come into the dvd store that i live near, so it takes a while (more like forrever) to get a stupid dvd, but it’s worth the wait when it comes to this show! Kikuchiyo and Komachi really bring the comedy into the show, so this is what I have to say to everyone who dislikes him:

been watching it in anime class at school. missed a few eps when i cut class, ‘cos i was like, “meh” at the beginning, but then… i fell in love with Kyuzo around ep 10 or so. strange that it took me so long, really. i should have been drooling by ep 4, but i must have been distracted by something… Jesus–i mean, Kanbei’s terrible hair perhaps…
so, like, it’s definitely got really polished & beautiful art, and the storyline is solid. although the animation on those kettle-fighters is kind of… shoddy. it’s too unrealistic. but! there’s a minimal amount of speedlining which, we all know, is ALWAYS a good thing.

I like Heichachi’s character too, and Shichiroji (ong, i dun think i spelt that rite >>;; xD), but Kikuchiyo, i do not find him funny. not my humor, i suppose. Kanbei, obviously no. too angsty, not enough hot to make up for it. you can’t be angsty AND ugly, it’s not allowed. there are rules against these things, no? Kirara… i don’t know what to make of her. i think i dislike her just because she is a girl. ^^;; and as for the little girl…Komachi… not cute. evil. devil spawn.

as a young japanese man, i grew up on samurai films, one of them being seven samurai, if the anime follows the movie, then why the hell are you all crying over someone who was supposed to die? it just goes to show that you all have never watched the movie.
Saw it, loved it - saw the original film, loved it. And considering how different they made the whole thing look, while I was devoutly praying they would keep the original survivor/death roster, I wasn’t entirely certain.
Yeah, I knew that Heihachi, Gorobei, Kikuchiyo, and Kyuzo would all buy it - but I didn’t know HOW. And I agree with Jinn - I was relieved that Kambei told Kirara to take a hike. (I had my reasons, though…)
Great series, and thank God it didn’t follow the trend of, “it’s great, it’s great, it’s great, but the last episode SUCKS (and thus ruins the whole series)!”

I’ve seen Samurai 7, and the artwork was breathtaking! I really enjoyed the show.
As Katsushiro may have killed kyuzo, and I admit it was pretty — very reckless. But he is a nice character who cared for the people, and I’m sure he feels great remorse for the mistake. Because Katsu was very fond of kyuzo, he admired him. And as for Kambei I never really appreciated his character and he was ugly . . . I always thought he resembled a monkey . . . and he talked way too much! Oh, but I do like Heihachi! ^_^ He is soooo cute and sweet. And as for kyuzo…he’s HOTT!

I got the first four samurai7 dvds from my uncle one day and was watching them. It was the best thing since Fullmetal alchemist!
First i kinda liked katsushiro, but he got kinda boring, he’s a boring person. then when kikuchyo said that girls would always fall for loner guys like kyuzo i really started thinking about it and i realized that I LOVE KYUZO-DONO!
i’ve always liked my men tall, skinny, and skilled with a sword (or two of them). and besides, he’s just plain hot!
It sucked when he died, i almost cryed, but i was also kinda in shock about heihachi, cuz heihachi is cool, he’s so zen “let’s just all be friends and live for the sunrise” haha i love him (but not in the way that i love kyuzo)
I managed to get my paws on a S7 DVD and man! It’s so good with great surround system! I love the singing of the swords, the blasting of metals, the sound of steel against steel and the native Japanese music.
There’s only one episode that I watch over and over and that is the damnest of all–25! Though my freakin’ eyes always swell with tears (wanting me to kill Katsushiro and make him experience a 1000 death), I need to watch it for datas’ sake.
Now I’m hunting for the original BW film…and sadly still can’t find one and now I’m feeding my self with Ran…

KYAAA!!!! I saw all the serie! And I was totally disappointeeeeeeeeed!!! It started off so strong, and when the samurais started to die one by one I was like shocked! Heihachi’s was kind of sad. Gorobei, well.. not so bad at all….. But KYUUZO, NOT THE BISHOUNEN COOL KYUUZO!!! You Katsu-stupid! I totally thought he would use the freaking katana, but noooo, he HAD to use that freaking UZI to KILL KYUUZO!!! Anyways…GAWD! XD A lot of people are devastated with Kyu-chin’s death. TwT Well, I was (more like, STILL AM) devastated about his death. -sighs-

Well, anyways…Samurai 7 still KICKS ASS in my HEART and MIND. It’s still in my TOP 10 BEST ANIMES I’ve watched. ^_^
Ok, admittedly I haven’t finished the series yet (I just got it), but I think it’s kind of fitting to have Kyuzo killed by gunfire. I hate the idea that that it was friendly fire, but considering that all the samurai who died in Kurosawa’s original work died from gunshots, it does seem fitting to have Kyuzo die that way as well.
Also, I actually like Kanbei’s character design. I didn’t think I would after seeing some of the promotional art, but he looks a lot better than I anticipated. Perhaps to fully appreciate his design you’d have to be fan of more than just anime bishounen. I actually think it’s amusing that so many of you think Kyuzo is so hot. One of the intial concepts for the anime was for Kyuzo to be female. Ah man, I like bishies too, but I can still appreciate other types of guys.
yahh I’ve watched samurai 7 till the end and i think it’s almost as perfect as Hayao Miyazaki’s spirited away..but with mega mechas and super moves…but seriously this is one of the best I’ve watched..It’s a blow for me that kyuzo died really…made me nightmaring for days…hohohoo. But i guess we can forgive the blue-ponied little maggot for uh…accidentaly…kill our hero. He’s a good boy actually hehheh. From the epilogue, i hope he had learned much
but samurai seven is the best. bestest of the bestest bests.
Well, Kyu-taro really died, even in the BW version. I managed to get my paws on the original version and man was I not awed! It was so good!

I bought the complete DVD collection! =’D
It was soo expensive! Dx
But, not regretting that I bought it. :’3

The TV’s always being used by my mom. :’p
Maybe I’ll try sometime when they’re out. xD
